Panola positive cases remain at 8; long-term care facilities added to report

Mississippi COVID-19 Cases to Date

Panola County is reporting the same number of confirmed COVID-19 cases for the third straight day. Dozens of testing samples for coronavirus are still at labs with hospital and county officials awaiting their return.

The Mississippi Department of Health reported 1,358 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, which brings the total number of Coast residents diagnosed with the virus to 217.

Statewide, 181 new cases and three new deaths were reported Friday.

In all, 29 Mississippi residents have died as a result of the virus as of April 2, 2020, according to MSDH. In addition to the Jackson County death reported Thursday, one person has also died in Harrison County and another in Hancock County.

Long-term care (LTC) facilities like nursing homes are considered high risk locations because their residents are older or in poor health. Even one case of COVID-19 in these facilities among residents or employees is considered an outbreak. We investigate residents, staff and close contacts of infected individuals for possible exposure. Counties with active LTC outbreaks are shown in the table below.
