Seniors urged to join Triad group

The local branch of the Triad organization is seeking citizens’ help restoring the database of names and contact information for the many seniors who attend its monthly meetings.

Triad is a cooperative effort between local law enforcement and senior citizens in the community. The Panola County Sheriff’s Department with the Batesville Police Department works with seniors, and senior service groups, to address criminal victimization of the elderly, and to find ways to prevent crimes against the elderly.

Sheriff Shane Phelps and BPD Captain Robert Ales said the computer with the local Triad database had files removed since the group’s last meeting, and notices of this month’s meeting could not be sent because no mailing labels could be generated.

Postcards are generally mailed each month telling citizens whether the meeting will be in Batesville, Sardis, or Como. This month’s meeting will be Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. in the Family Life Center of Batesville First Baptist Church.

Meetings are the third Thursday of the month at different locations. Sheriff’s officers and city policemen have renewed their effort to build the local Triad into a strong group with an active voice in community law enforcement.

There is no charge to join the group or attend the meetings. Ales said senior citizens are among the most vulnerable crime victims, and often need information about safety and how to contact officers with concerns.

Ales said all senior citizens, and others, are welcome to join the mailing list and receive notice of meetings. Contact Ales at BPD (563-5653) to be added or for more information about the program.
