New officials swearing in Friday
Panola County elected officials who will take office Jan. 6, 2020, will be sworn into office today (Dec. 27) at 10 a.m. at the Batesville Courthouse.
Circuit Judge Smith Murphey will administer the oaths of the different county offices to the duly elected officials. Some are incumbents and have been through the short ceremony before, and some are new office holders, having been elected in the November General Election.
The new Board of Supervisors will meet in Sardis on Monday, Jan. 6, with two new members – District 2 Supervisor Earl Burdette and District 4 Supervisor Chad Weaver.
One that board’s first orders of business will be to appoint someone to fill the vacant seat of the late Raye Hawkins as District 2 Constable. That person will serve until the November 2020 election. The qualifying period for that special election will begin Jan. 2.
