Calling all Scrooges

The opening of “A Christmas Carol – The Musical” directed by Vic Henson at Panola Playhouse in Sardis this weekend is an opportunity to support local arts and encourage any latent Scrooges to embrace the Christmas season. The Playhouse will present the musical this weekend and next.

Panola Playhouse, on Main St. in Sardis, will begin a run of “A Christmas Carol – The Musical” this weekend, and will continue with shows through next Sunday.

In the Christmas classic, Ebenezer Scrooge is a prosperous curmudgeon who believes that personal wealth is far more valuable than the happiness and comfort of others.

With an infuriated “Bah! Humbug!” Scrooge summates his feelings of Christmas tidings and charitable giving, but he’s forced to face his selfish ways when three ghosts on Christmas Eve lead him through his Past, Present and Future.

Thanks to their guidance, Scrooge recognizes his faults and greets Christmas morning with a cheerful “Happy Christmas” before spending the day reconnecting and sharing love with those that mean the most to him.

Show dates are Dec. 7, 13, and 14 at 7  p.m., and Dec.  7, 8, 14, and 15 at 2 p.m.  Tickets can be purchased at www.panolaplayhouse.com.

Vic Henson is director of “A Christmas Carol – The Musical.” Janine Marshall is executive director of Panola Playhouse.
