The Heflin House Museum is the 161-year-old home which is very popular for weddings, social events, class reunions, birthday parties, bridge parties, and meetings, and is always transformed into a Christmas destination for many across the Mid-South.

The Heflin House will hold its annual Christmas Bazaar and Luncheon on Thursday and Friday this week (Nov. 21 and 22). Luncheon each day is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and tickets are $10.

The bazaar is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. both Thursday and Friday, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Sponsored by the Heritage Association, there will be many baked goods, table runners, silk baby blankets and all sorts of novelties for sale.

The Heflin House became a museum when citizens of Sardis worked together to organize the Heflin Heritage Association in order to save this antebellum structure and they ultimately saved it from being replaced with a chain outlet.

The house was built in 1858 by Captain Wlliam David Heflin and sat on 11 acres and some of that was sold a few years ago to make way for the Sardis Library. The home has been completely renovated with a spacious deck, commercial-grade kitchen and an expansive meeting room.

The energetic and dedicated volunteers have been decorating the venerable home, planning the luncheon menu and bake sale and even sending delegations to markets to acquire a wide array of gift items that can be marked off  Christmas lists.

Guests who do not see anything they want to purchase, will want to know that donations are also accepted and appreciated. Donations are the basis for income that helps maintain the historical structure.

New members are also accepted in the Heflin House Association. The year starts in July and members are always encouraged to bring members and anybody who would like to join. It is up to a younger generation of Heflin House supporters to carry on fundraising to provide for the upkeep of the county’s only museum.
