Larry Francis Vanderburg

Larry Francis Vanderburg, 68, of Crenshaw, passed away Oct. 25, 2019, at his residence. He is survived by his daughter, Kristi Vanderburg (Kyle Jackson) of Columbia, TN; son, Eric E. Vanderburg of Columbia, TN; brother, Jerry Eugene Vanderburg (Phyllis) of Franklin, TN and 5 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Julie Lyle Vanderburg. He was born in Memphis, TN to parents, F.M. and Gloria Vanderburg.

Larry attended Alcoa High School and graduated with the Class of 1969. He was a devoted son, loving father, husband and grandfather. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising his kids and grandkids and just being with his family.

He helped shape Columbia American Little League and was a prominent member of the Columbia community and First Baptist Church. Larry spent 40 years working for Bellsouth and AT&T before retiring to Crenshaw.

He was a member of Crenshaw Baptist Church. Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28,   in the Chapel of Pate-Jones Funeral Home. Burial followed in Longtown Cemetery.

 

Delva Blackwell Ashcraft

Delva Blackwell Ashcraft went to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, October 26, 2019, from her daughter’s home in Batesville. Delva was born on December 1, 1922 in Tate, Georgia.  She was a resident of Clinton for 51 years.  Delva loved the Lord Jesus with all of her heart.  She was a soul winner, Prayer Warrior, and loved the Word of God and His Work.

She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Faith Joyce of Clinton, MS and Joyce Snyder (Tommy) of Batesville. She is survived by a sister, Nellie Rainier of Baltimore, MD and a brother Charles Blackwell (Dean) of Peterson, AL. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Zachary Joyce of Matthews, NC, Heather Mitchell Madisonville, LA, Matthew Joyce of Clinton, Gabriel Snyder of Bartlett, TN, Rachel Snyder of Bartlett, TN, and Nicholas Blake of Vicksburg. Along with her grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren also survive her.

Delva was acquainted with grief in this life having experienced the loss of loved ones.  Her husband Carey, who preceded her to Glory in 2014, welcomed Delva into Heaven. She also experienced the physical loss of two daughters, Phyllis Blake and Joan Robertson along with a grandson (Jordan Snyder) and a Son in law (Jimmy Joyce).  She was preceded in death by six siblings.

A celebration of her life was at Lakewood Funeral Home in Jackson on Tuesday, October 29.  Visitation was at Lakewood at 10 a.m. with the celebration service at 11 a.m.      

 

Ruth Margaret Moss Willis

Mrs. Ruth Margaret Moss Willis, 95, of Enid,  passed away  Friday, Oct. 25, 2019, at her home. Mrs. Willis was a member of Bethel Methodist Church near Enid and enjoyed reading and puzzles.

She loved her grandchildren dearly and enjoyed her time helping take care of them. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister who will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.

Mrs. Willis leaves behind her family which includes her daughter, Diane Willis Hendrix (Mike) of Enid; three sons, Roger Wray Willis (Carla) of Enid, Randy William Willis (Robbie) of Batesville, and John David Willis (Danielle) of Batesville; one sister, Katherine Moss Scribner of Caldwell, KS; seven grandsons, Robert Willis, Sonny Willis, Dan Willis, Ryan Willis, Lance Hendrix, Matt Hendrix, and John Wesley Willis; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Wray Walgren Willis; one granddaughter, Camille Willis; and her parents.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 28,  at 1 p.m. in Bethel Methodist Church with Rev. Morgan Spencer officiating and Mrs. Willis’ grandsons serving as pallbearers. Burial was at Bethel Cemetery.

Visitation was held Sunday, Oct. 27,  from 5 – 7 p.m. in Dickins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Methodist Church, c/o Pat Little, P.O. Box 364, Charleston, MS 38921, to Gideons International, P.O. Box 97251, Washington, DC 20090, or to the Methodist Children’s Homes of Mississippi, 805 N.Flag Chapel Rd., Jackson, MS 39209.
