No trucks?

Driver can’t make the turn

The driver of this big rig either can’t read, or chose to ignore the “No Trucks” signs posted at both ends of the short road that connects Hwy. 51 N. to Hwy. 35 N. in Batesville – where the MMC Materials concrete plant is located.

The driver told people on the scene that he made a delivery at Piggly Wiggly and was trying to get to I-55 to make another delivery at Piggly Wiggly in Olive Branch. He’s new to the job, he said, and did not have a GPS system tailored for big trucks installed in the rig.

Police issued him a ticket, and blocked Hwy. 35 off from the Chevron Station on James St. to the old Serta building at Brewer (Keating Ext.) Rd. from about 6:30 to 8:30 a.m., causing many work and school commuters to make slight detours.

Fortunately, a large wrecker was quickly dispatched to the scene, along with a few folks from MDOT.

Everything was back to normal in a couple of hours, except for the guardrail in the northbound lane. MDOT officials will have charge of repairing the damage.
