Joseph “Joe” Alvin Brown, age 51, passed away early Friday morning

Oct. 4, 2019, at his residence in Marks.

A Celebration of Life and a Masonic Service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 13, beginning at 3 p.m. at Desoto Shrine Club, 2888 Gwynn Road, Nesbit.

Joe was a Past Master for two years at Hernando Lodge #51. He was a loving

husband, a great father and grandfather and had many friends.

Those whom he leaves to forever cherish his memory include his wife of 30 years, Ronda Brown of Marks; three daughters, Shasta Bland (Coy) of

Lambert, Shelby Brown and Carlee Brown, both of Marks; one son,

Trapper Brown of Marks; three grandchildren, Aubrey Bland, Jake

Bland and awaiting the arrival of Asa Bland all of Lambert; and one

brother, Daniel Brown (Teresa) of Olive Branch.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Billie Brown.

Kimbro Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

 

Bettye R. Jones, 75, of Como, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Southaven.

She was an accountant who retired from Hi-Light USA, Inc. in Memphis, and Fredonia Methodist Church in Como.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Oct. 20, at 2 p.m. in the Sardis Chapel of Ray-Nowell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Panola County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1756, Batesville, MS 38606.

Arrangements are entrusted to Ray-Nowell Funeral Home.

 

Hargis Lester, 92, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019, at his residence in Batesville. Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 12, at Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church with burial at New Hope M.B. Church cemetery under the direction of Hodges Funeral Home.

Visitation is set for today (Oct. 11) from 5 to 6 p.m. at Pilgrim Rest Church.

 

John Randall “Randy” Montgomery, 57, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2019, at his home in Batesville. The funeral service will be Saturday, Oct. 12, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home.

Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at noon.

Born in Sardis to the late Bobby Gene Montgomery, Sr. and Edith Earline Stapp Montgomery, Randy worked as a shift supervisor in the vinyl siding industry.  He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed taking care of his dogs and spending time outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his daughter, Melissa Montgomery Mitchell and her husband, Michael of Early, TX; a son, Tony Montgomery of Early, TX; a sister, Tonya Fogarty of Hernando; two brothers, Richard Lee Montgomery and his wife, Kay of Cypress, TX, and Bobby Gene Montgomery, Jr. and his wife, Lisa of Sardis; three grandchildren, John Anthony Montgomery, Ethan Lynn Mitchell and Aiden Lee Mitchell all of Early, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions in Randy’s memory may be made Emanuel Church of The Lord Jesus, 1092 Tramel Road, Batesville, MS 38606.

Funeral services for Dorothy Melton Ott, 53, will be Saturday, Oct. 12, at 2 p.m. in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at noon.

She died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019, in an auto accident near Harmontown.
