Green Wave looks to bounce back from loss

With one week remaining until the start of district play, the North Delta Green Wave will look to rebound from last week’s tough loss at Magnolia Heights as they travel north across the state line to square off against Rossville Christian (Tenn.) tonight for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Tonight will be the second all-time meeting between the two schools with North Delta winning 54-0 in 2017.

Rossville is in Fayette County, about 80 miles north of Batesville.

The Green Wave is 7-3 all-time against teams from the Volunteer State.

The Wolves of District 1-3A enter tonight sporting a 1-6 record after a 35-7 road loss to Oak Hill last week with their lone victory coming against King’s Prep of Memphis (28-18) two weeks ago.

Garrett Leath directs the Rossville offense as the junior has thrown for 628 yards and four touchdowns with six interceptions. Ben Dillworth and Dequincy Young join Leath in the backfield.

Senior Michael Mullins (6’2”, 190) is the Wolves leading receiver with 10 receptions for 149 yards. Omarr Hurd, Jr. (5’6”,160) has eight catches for 151 yards and leads the team with 53 tackles.

Jaylen Howell (5’10”,160) is second on the team with 43 tackles.

North Delta (5-2) meanwhile remains at the top of the MAIS Class 4A prep poll despite last week’s setback.

The Green Wave are averaging 359 yards of total offense and 34 points per game.

Junior TE/DE Drake Barton leads the team in receiving yards (300) and tackles with 54. Hawk Aldison is second on the team with 52 stops while Jordan Cox and Martin Wolfe follows with 51 and 50 tackles.

Quarterback Ryan Gibson as amassed over 1,000 all-purpose yards with 642 yards rushing and nine touchdowns to his credit to go along with 455 yards through the air.

Senior running back Jimmy Manues leads the team with 11 touchdowns and 853 yards rushing while Cox is third on the team with 360 yards on the ground and five scores.
