HonkyTonk Heroes will be the second installment of the Fall Concert Series on Batesville’s Downtown Square from 6 to 8 p.m. Bring lawn chairs and the whole family for this relaxing evening of fun with friends. No admission charge!

Sept. 27

South Panola High School Air Force Junior ROTC will have a community car wash from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the high school on Tiger Drive. Donations will be accepted to help fund the activities of the Junior ROTC.

Sept. 28

The 11th annual Sardis Classic Open Car Show sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and Mississippi Delta Street Rods will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. There is a $20 entry and awards will be given at 3 p.m. Open to all makes of cars, trucks, motorcycles, and more. Sept. 30

Sister Mattie Richardson Fox and the Martin Luther King Crusaders are seeking applications for the 2019 Sadie L. Harrison Music Scholarship. Applications are due Sept. 30. The scholarship will be awarded at a banquet Saturday,  Oct. 12 at the Lester Hill Life Center.  Students with a major or minor in music who are currently enrolled in an institution of higher learning are urged to apply. The Northwest Mississippi Community College Fine Arts Department is hosting an exquisite exhibition of contemporary art, entitled “Rhythym and Flow,” that examines the beauty and diversity of our great state’s wetlands and rivers. The art exhibit is available for viewing until Sept. 30 at the Fine Arts Gallery, NWCC Senatobia campus. Don’t miss this wonderful cultural opportunity! Gallery hours are listed for Monday through Thursday 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m., and Fridays 8 a.m.-noon.

Oct. 5

Merea Ministry will have their annual Fall Festival fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church (Batesville) Family Life Center.  There will be food, crafts, art, music, silent auction, cake sale, and fun for kids.  Come join your friends and support Merea Ministry.

 

Oct. 9

Plans are underway for the 9th annual Gateway to the Delta Festival on the Charleston Court Square. Entertainment will kick off at 11 a.m. with The Ellis Family, followed by The Bonfire Orchestra, The Shakerz, the David Dunavent Band, the Beale St. All-Star Band, Southern Halo, and Meet the Press.  Other event highlights are the always-popular Kidzone will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; the Mayor’s Fun Run; and the ever-popular car show. Oct. 12

The third South Panola High School Decade of the 80s Reunion returns Saturday, Oct. 12 at the Batesville Lions Club. Fee is $35 per person. T-shirts and food will be extra. It is also bring your own beverage. The reunion will run from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. with special guest band Spunk Monkees, along with DJ Marky Mark (Mark Best). The NAACP will meet Tuesday before the third Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the large meeting room of the Batesville Public Library.

The South Panola Class of 1979 is planning its 40th year reunion

for Oct. 19. Contact 934-7281, 934-1272, or 703-0171 for more information or to help in the planning. All persons with connections to this class are urged to call. The reunion date is the day after the South Panola High School homecoming game in the fall.

Deadline to register for the Junior Auxiliary of Batesville  2019 Turkey Trot 5k is Oct. 19. The race will be held at 8 a.m. in lovely downtown Batesville on Nov. 23. All proceeds go to support the wonderful projects of the Batesville Junior Auxiliary.

Wednesdays

Square Market in downtown Batesville from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pick up fried pork skins, fried pies, fresh eggs, picked okra, honey, chow chow, pepper sauce, jellies, BBQ sauces, breads, and rolls.  Crafts and other booths always open also. It won’t be long until Christmas! Shop the crafts for early gifts! Don’t forget the homemade nap pads for the young ones. Batesville VFW Post 4968 and Auxiliary meets the first Thursday of every month at the VFW building at 6 p.m.

Saturdays

Every third Saturday of the month, the Batesville Lions Club will have Karaoke Night starting at 6 p.m. Music starts at 7 p.m. at the Lions Club building off Tiger Drive.
