County schools show well at jamborees

If football jamborees are considered tune up’s for the regular season, then all three Panola County high schools looked to be in midseason form Friday night.
At Tiger Field in Batesville South Panola blanked Lafayette County 14-0 behind touchdown runs from Janari Dean and Nate Harris.
Nathan Walls converted two PATS for the Tigers. The offensive line clearly controlled the line of scrimmage for the Tigers and the running backs’ speed was too much for the Commodores in the short scrimmage.
Defensively, South Panola is big across the front and the linebackers were quick to the ball. Coach Ricky Woods said he was pleased with the jamboree and told the players he sees improvements that are exciting for the coaching staff.
In other jamborees involving Panola Co. teams, North Panola edged West Point 6-0 as Cadarrius Pride hooked up with Carl Robinson on a 35-yard touchdown pass for the lone score.
South Panola meanwhile blanked Lafayette Co.14-0 behind touchdown runs from Janari Dean from Nate Harris. Nathan Walls converted two PATS for the Tigers.
On the campus of Lee Academy in Clarksdale, the North Delta School Green Wave defeated former district foe Indianola 8-0 in the second of two 20-minute scrimmages.
NDS dropped a 12-6 tilt to Magnolia Heights School earlier in the afternoon. The Chiefs scored on a 65-yard pass on the final play.
North Delta’s defense came up with two big stops inthe victory over Indianola as Tyler Hall intercepted a pass to stall a Colonel drive. Junior cornerback J.B. Burnett later picked off a pass on the final play of the game.
Jimmy Manues accounted for the lone score with 12-yard touchdown to cap off a eight-play; 65-yard drive. Quarterback Ryan Gibson connected with Ian Cole for the successful two-point conversion.
North Delta converted to key third down opportunities to keep the drive alive including a 23-yard scamper by Gibson on 3rd-and-8 from their own 37 yard-line.
Gibson later zipped a 15-yard pass completion to tight end Drake Barton to the Indianola 16 to set up Manues’ scoring run two plays later.
North Delta ran nine times for 57 yards and 27 yards through the air with Jordan Cox and Cole hauling in one reception each.
Gibson’s five-yard TD run highlighted North Delta’s only score against Magnolia Heights. Barton caught three passes for 30 yards. Hawk Aldison added a quarterback sack for the North Delta defense.
At West Point High School, the North Panola High School Cougars edged West Point 6-0 as Cadarrius Pride hooked up with Carl Robinson on a 35-yard touchdown pass for the lone score.
Head coach Carl Diffee and staff are looking to return the Cougars to their third consecutive North State championship appearance with a team that has plenty of experience in big games.
All three teams kick off the regular season on the road Friday as North Delta visits Marshall Academy, North Panola travels to Marks to take on M.S. Palmer and South Panola squares off against Tupelo
