Receiving and returning Poll Manager training will be today, July 23, at the Batesville Courthouse. Two trainings at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. The parties should have contacted the poll managers that are scheduled to come.

The Panola County Election Commission will hold a public demonstration of the new DS 200 Optical Scanners that will be used in the Primary Election at the Batesville Courthouse from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The public is invited.

July 25

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks will offer the Hunter Education course all persons born after Jan. 1, 1972, must complete to acquire a hunting license. The course is free and participants must register online at least one day before the classes are held. Quick Bites, offered through the Mississippi State University Extension Service will have Unparalleled Design with instructor Lynette from the Plant and Soil Sciences department from noon to 1 p.m. Parallel Systems Design is very specific and stylized featuring either vertical or horizontal placements. This is the perfect design style to feature some of our very favorite summer blossoms. Contact the Panola County Extension Service at 563-6260 to sign up and view the program.

July 25&26

The Batesville Police Dept. and Panola County Sheriff’s Dept. will have their annual “Battle of the Badges” blood drive Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Mississippi Blood Services’ donor coach will be parked at the Police Station and the Sheriff’s Dept. Donors can designate which department they are giving for.

July 27

Jamarca Sanford and Michael Oher will host a Back To School event strictly be for GIRL at 1:30 p.m. The first 150 – 200 Young Ladies that join them after the annual Football Camp at South Panola Football field will receive a free book bag and school supplies. All young ladies must be present.

J.P. Hudson Park will have sign ups for JP Fall Ball Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Parents may register children that day at the large meeting room at T.V.E.P.A.  Play will start Monday, Aug. 26 and the teams will play for five weeks, two games per week. This is the second season the park has offered fall baseball and there has been good participation.

Black Jack Community Center will have Karaoke Night from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Admission is $5 and concessions will be available. Good family fun. For more information, call 563-7060.

July 28

The annual Arizona Street Back to School Rally will be held beginning at 1 p.m. School supplies and refreshments will be available for all residents of the community. There will be games and music. Sponsors are R.B. Ford, Christine Pride, Shane Phelps, and LTMB. Contact Ford (654-6240) or Pride (710-7040) for more information or to make a donation for the rally.

July 29

The Panola County Election Commission announces that Logic and Accuracy testing for the DS200 scanners will be on Monday, July 29, at 9 a.m. at the Batesville Courthouse.

July 30

South Panola High School will hold its Freshman Academy Tuesday, July 30, in the SPHS cafeteria. Times will be 9 a.m. or 1 p.m. It is an informational session to pick up schedules and tour the building.

July 31

ServSafe Seminary, the food safety class that is required by the Mississippi State Department of Health for all public facilities serving food to the public, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the University of Miss., 2301 S. Lamar Blvd., Oxford in the South Oxford Center. Janie Cole is the instructor. Registration fee is $150. Call 662-915-8662 for more information.

Aug. 3

Coles Point Fire Department, 1270 Sardis Lake Drive, will host a Political Rally from 4 p.m. until. Ribs and hamburger plates will be sold for $10. All local and state candidates are invited to this event. All proceeds go to benefit the Coles Point Fire Department. 

Aug. 10

A benefit Corn Hole Tournament will be held at Squirrel Camp, Highway 322, Crowder, for Janey Hankins who is battling Stage 4 cancer. The tournament will start at 3 p.m. at $20 per team. The Hankins family has been a staple in Crowder. All money goes to Ms. Janey. All donations appreciated, even if you can’t attend or don’t participate in the tournament. Celebrate Recovery With Jesus will meet each Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. at Victory Independent Baptist Church on Hwy. 51S, two-and-a-half miles south of Batesville on the right. Bring all your hurts, habits, and hang-ups. Call 209-7773 for more information.

The South Panola Class of 1979 is planning its 40th year reunion

for Oct. 19. Contact 934-7281, 934-1272, or 703-0171 for more information or to help in the planning. All persons with connections to this class are urged to call. The reunion date is the day after the South Panola High School homecoming game in the fall.

Gymnastics for kids is held 5-6 p.m. for ages 4-6 and 6-6:45 p.m.for ages 7 and up. Class follows the South Panola school schedule. Call 710-6121 for information.

Al-Anon support group for family and friends of alcoholics will meet at 8 p.m. at First United Methodist Church.

Tuesdays

The Panola County Election Commissioners meet the first Tuesday of each month at the Batesville Courthouse at 2 p.m.

The American Legion meets the third Tuesday of every month at the VFW at 5:30 p.m.

The Panola County Humane Society meets the fourth Tuesday of every month at the Batesville Public Library at 5:30 p.m.

Panola County Cancer Relief Organization meets the second Tuesday of each month at the Batesville Public Library at 6 p.m.

Al-Anon Serenity Group meets Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. at Oxford University United Methodist Church, 424 S. Tenth St., Oxford. Take the Tyler St. entrance.

Wednesdays

Thursdays

Batesville VFW Post 4968 and Auxiliary meets the first Thursday of every month at the VFW building at 6 p.m.

The Como Farmers Market will be held each Thursday at the end of Main St. in Como from 3 to 7 p.m. More vendors are needed. Contact the Como Town Hall at 526-5106 for more information.

Saturdays

Every third Saturday of the month, the Batesville Lions Club will have Karaoke Night starting at 6 p.m. Music starts at 7 p.m. at the Lions Club building off Tiger Drive.
