Nix finished first runner-up to winner Margaret Hyer of Hattiesburg, who was competing as Miss Riverbend in her third try for the Miss Mississippi crown. She is a graduate of Ole Miss and her social impact statement promotes organ donation.

Nix, also an Ole Miss grad, promoted a platform that taught students ways to cope with school bullying and how to stop that type of abuse. She will enter the School of Pharmacy at the University of Tennessee in the fall.

Hyer won the top prize – a $10,000 scholarship and the right to represent the state in the Miss America competition. She will spend the next year traveling the state and making personal appearances on behalf of the Miss Mississippi pageant.

Nix was also the recipient of considerable scholarship funding from her pageant career, and will be asked to fill the role of Miss Mississippi 2019 if Hyer is unable to fulfill the duties of the position in the next 12 months.

Rounding out the top five after Hyer and Nix  were Miss Hattiesburg Macy Mitchell, Miss Dixie Molly May and Miss University Blair Wortsmith.
