Also present were State Representatives Nolan Metteal and his wife, Kay, along with Sardis Mayor Lula Palmer and alderman Tommy Rayburn.

The rains came around 2:30 p.m. before the market was set to open, leaving organizer Carla Jackson wondering if anyone would show up. But market goers were out in force to support the vendors who did come.

Produce farmers Steve Richardson and Robbie Pollard had fresh vegetables for the demanding public. Kimberly and Candran Webb had homemade chicken sausage. They cooked up samples and sold many.

Charles Palmer was there with four types of pork skins from regular to garlic to barbecue.

Palmer and Jackson said they hope to bring a Farmers Market to Sardis on a continual basis.

Until then, there will be another Farmer’s Market at The Pavilion, Wednesday, June 12 from 3 to 7 p.m.
