For college baseball fans it truly is the best time of the year as 64 teams begin today in quest for a  NCAA College World Series berth June 15-26 in Omaha, Neb.

A total of 16 regional sites consisting of four teams each will play a double elimination format with the winner advancing to a best-of-three super regional series beginning next week.

In what has become a yearly occurrence, the SEC once again leads all conferences with 10 teams in regionals and tournament champion Vanderbilt leading the way.

A little closer to home, all three Mississippi teams received births as No. 6 national seed Mississippi St. and Ole Miss will host regionals and C-USA tournament champion Southern Mississippi heads to the Bayou to play in the Baton Rouge regional.

The No. 2 seeded Golden Eagles (38-19) square off against No. 3 seed Arizona State while the top-seeded LSU Tigers tangle with No. 4 seed Stony Brook.

Meanwhile in Starkvagas, Dudy-Noble Field will be rocking as the Bulldogs (46-13) take on SWAC champion Southern University. Miami, Fla., and Central Michigan round out the other part of the bracket.

Having dropped six of their last seven regular season games, Ole Miss seems to have gotten hot at the right time in the SEC tournament at Hoover, reaching the championship game and losing to No. 2 ranked Vanderbilt 11-10 after blowing a early 9-1 lead.

The Rebels (37-25) takes on No. 4 seed Jacksonville St. (37-21) in one opening round game while Illinois (36-19) and Clemson (34-24) play game two tonight.

Other SEC teams included in the national tournament are: Tennessee, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Texas A&M and Arkansas.
