Led by a complete game pitching performance from senior Blaine Ware, the South Panola baseball Tigers remained undefeated at 6-0 on the season with a 8-2 at Southaven Wednesday.
The win marked the best start the Tigers have had since 2014 when they started with six wins. It was also the first time South Panola has won at Southaven since David Renfroe beat them with a 2-0 complete game in 2006.
Ware improved to 2-0 on the year by allowing one earned run while scattering four hits and striking out seven on 81 pitches. The senior southpaw has yet to walk a batter in 14 innings.
South Panola got off to a fast start with three runs in the top of the first on RBI’s by Bowen Williams and Dre’Moore, who drove in another run in the fourth inning to give the Tigers 4-1 cushion.
The Tigers put the game away with a four-run sixth inning to increase the margin to 8-1. Mari Boyd and Wes Morgan led South Panola with two hits each.
Dawson Griffin doubled while Moore added a single to account for the six South Panola hits. Southaven plated their other run off Ware in the seventh.
South Panola was scheduled to return home Thursday to take on Water Valley and will host, weather permitting, Horn Lake tomorrow at noon and Grenada at 5 p.m.
