Tigers track teams sets school records

Two South Panola track records were set at the Tupelo Golden Wave Invitational meet Saturday.

The boys 4×800 relay team consisting of Johnathan ‘Wray’ Willis, David Bledsoe, Issac Sturdivant and Spencer Davis took home first place with a time of 9:06.42. It was an all-time best for a SP Tiger team.

Davis set a school record in the 3200 meter run with a time of 11:09.23 that was good for third place in the event. Davis also finished third in the 1600 meters and fifth in the 800 meter event.

Cameron Wright and Tiram Waddington finished sixth and seventh place in the 100 meters. Sturdivant  meanwhile placed second in the 200 meters (53.72) and third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:15.77.

Bledsoe also picked up a seventh place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 57.00.

The South Panola boys relay teams finished fifth in both the 4×100 and 4×200 and third in the 4×400. Demerion Shaw placed fifth in the 110meter hurdles with a time of 20.74. Demetri Jones was third in the shot put with a throw of 39’8”

The Tiger boys finished the one-day meet in sixth place with 47 points.

The South Panola girls meanwhile garnered 61 points that was good for second place. Kiersten Clark won the 100 and 200 meters for the Lady Tigers while Aziyah McGhee finished second in the 200 meters. McGhee jumped 13’10” that was good for 4th place finish in the long jump.

Jadah Milam finished sixth in the 200 meters (31.17) followed by Mia Jackson in ninth place with a time of 32.31.

The Lady Tigers claimed first place in the 4×100 (53.32) and 4×200 (1:52.6) relay events.

Crystal Mayes won the high jump with a leap of 4’8” while Ladyasa Robinson claimed first place in the discus with a throw of 87’1”.

Takerya Webster thew the discus 58’ 3.25” good for sixth place.

South Panola is coached by Montez Griffin who is in his first year with the program.
