MEMA reports new data from last week’s storms

The extent of damage caused by last week’s storms and flooding is beginning to be known as the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) released an updated report on Tuesday. It was already known north Mississippi was hit hard with flooding and tornadoes in the Columbus area and forty counties across the state have reported damage to MEMA.
Around 600 residents and more than 400 bridges and roads received damage along with 50 business throughout the state. In the northern region of the state, Lee County reported 70 homes damaged while Calhoun County had over 50 homes received storm damage. Lafayette’s damage was not as severe as surrounding counties with seven homes reporting damage along with three businesses and three roads.
In Batesville, six homes, three businesses, and three roads were officially damaged.
Oxford was under a boil-water notice from Saturday morning through Tuesday after two water mains broke, causing the city to shut off the water supply for most of the weekend.
Tishomingo County recorded a EF-2 tornado that was confirmed by the National Weather Service, and Lowndes County had an EF-0 tornado in Artesia. Columbus’ tornado was recorded as an EF-3. The Lowndes County tornadoes damaged over 270 homes and 38 businesses. At the time the report was sent, the damage to roads and bridges in the county were still under assessment.
