North Panola splits with Independence

The North Panola Cougars ended the regular season  at home Friday by splitting a pair of games against district foe Independence.

In the varsity girls contest, Independence completed an undefeated district slate with a 54-33 win over the Lady Cougars. Shan Clark led North Panola (9-13) with 12 points while Jasmine Mays provided seven.

LeLe Wilson added five with Ania Taylor adding four. Sherry Connor and Eriunna Goings rounded out the scoring with three and two points each.

The Lady Cougars will square off against host Water Valley tonight at 7 p.m in the opening round of the Region 2-3A tournament with the winner taking on Independence Thursday at 4 p.m.

The Cougar boys meanwhile mounted a fourth quarter to defeat Independence 59-51 in the nightcap.

North Panola (14-7, 5-5) and the Wildcats will face each other again tonight at 8:30 p.m.  in opening round of the tournament with the winner taking on No. 2 ranked Coahoma Co. AHS Thursday at 8:30 p.m.
