Mitchell rains three-pointers, ND ends regular season

North Delta senior Ripken Mitchell hit for a career high 19 points, all in the second half, as the Green Wave was victorious in their regular season finale’ with a 73-57 win over Lee, Ark., Friday night.

The Green Wave knocked down 14 three-pointer’s in route to snapping a seven-game losing skid. Mitchell, Walt Miller and Colin Hartman connected on four trey’s each while Ryan Gibson and Carter Gee hit one three pointer each.

Gibson and Miller followed with 14 points each followed by Drake Barton with seven. Gee rounded out the scoring column with three points.

The North Delta Lady Green Wave improved to 17-9 on the season with a 51-10 rout of Lee in the opening game.

Both Green Wave teams will now focus its attention on the District 1-AAA tournament being held at Indianola Academy. The North Delta boys take on Lee Academy Thursday at 7:15 p.m. with the winner facing No.1 seed Indianola Friday at 7:45 p.m.

On the girls side of the bracket, the No. 2 seeded Lady Waves square off against Indianola Friday at 6:30 p.m. with the consolation game set for 2 p.m and championship game at 4:30 Saturday.

The top tour teams advance to the North AAA State tournament next week at Columbus-Heritage Academy.

South Panola splits

With  Independence

Bailey Ware hit for a game-high 17 points as the South Panola Lady Tigers halted a three-game losing skid with a 63-53 road victory at Independence Friday.

Marshala Doyle provided 16 points for South Panola who evened  their record at 11-11 on the season. Nahriah Connor added 10 while Crystal Mays and Takyra Webster garnered eight points each. Aziyah McGhee and Teddera Patton finished with two points each.

In the boys contest, Independence outscored South Panola 45-25 in the second half to come away with a 64-56 victory.

Eldridge Brooks and J’Tavian Hicks led South Panola with 13 points apiece. Terry Bishop added eight points while Keith Cole provided seven. Stanwon Porter chipped in with five followed by Mari Boyd with four. Issac Sturdivant garnered three, Jamorris House finished with two and Thad Kirkwood registered one point for the Tigers.

South Panola wraps up the regular season at Grenada today starting at 4 p.m.

North Panola routs

Rosa Fort HS

The North Panola Lady Cougars won its fifth game in a row Friday night as the Cougars pounded Rosa Fort 67-36.

Senior Shan Clark and junior Sherry Connor scored 19 points each as North Panola improved to 9-12 after starting the season 2-8. Jasmine Mays contributed with 13 points while Akilah Hardin and Shanique Burnette finished with six points. Johneicya ‘“Le-Le” Wilson rounded of the scoring with two points.

In the boys contest, North Panola received a season-high 33 points from Mario Fenner, Jr., as the Cougars eased past the Lions 71-52.

North Panola, (13-7) trailed 18-17 after one quarter of play but outscored Rosa Fort 21-9 in the second period before coasting the rest of the way.

Cedquavious Hunter followed Fenner in the scoring column with 14 points while Carl Robinson added six. Javon Williams and Herbert Thomas added four points each. Demartius Wright, Kevon Nunley and Eric Williams rounded out the scoring with two points each.

North Panola concludes the regular season Friday night by hosting Independence starting at 6 p.m.
