Local woman killed in DeSoto

A  Batesville woman was killed Thursday and two Florida women are in custody after a police chase across north Mississippi led to the fatal wreck.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol confirmed that Lisa Gay of Batesville was killed in the crash in Byhalia.

Tae’ona Edmonson of Cape Coral, Fla.,  and Tanairy Portal of Miami are in custody. MHP says the women face a variety of charges from multiple jurisdictions. Details were not released. It was unknown if they have attorneys.

It began at 1 p.m. Thursday, when DeSoto County authorities attempted to stop a vehicle on U.S. 78, which turns into Interstate 22. Edmonson led deputies on a brief chase until they crossed into Marshall County, where she crashed the car, killing Gay.

Edmondson then got into another vehicle with Portal and fled. They crossed into Union County, before the car hit a MHP vehicle head-on.

The women and the trooper were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
