SP sweeps West Point in soccer

Both South Panola soccer teams opened up their 2018-19 home slate with a pair of wins over West Point Tuesday.
The Tiger boys club received two goals each from Mohammed Ranwaneh and Spencer Davis and a lone goal from Kyle Kimmons to defeat the Green Wave 5-1.
South Panola (1-1) opened the season with a 5-2 loss to Cleveland Central is coached by Colin Giles who is in his first year at the school. Giles took over the boys program from Sam Blaine who is now the head softball coach at Independence High School.
The South Panola boys soccer program is in its sixth year and is coming off a 5-13 record last season. The Tigers are looking to have their first every winning season in soccer. Team seniors are Arthur Chapman, Davis, Gehrig Griffin, Rawaneh and Luke Weldon.
The Lady Tigers meanwhile picked up their second win of the season with a 3-1 victory over West Point as Kelsie Fisher, MacKenzie Johnson and Shelby Spriggs all scored.
South Panola is led by first-year head coach Lauren Klien. A Texas native, Kilen spent 16 years playing travel and club soccer in various parts of the country but was unable to continue a college career due to a series of concussions.
South Panola visited Strayhorn last night, but will return home today at 5 and 7 p.m. to host Cleveland Central.
