Jim Cutberth

Jim Cutberth, two weeks shy of his 86th birthday, passed away on May 10, 2018 at Methodist Germantown Hospice care.

Known to many as the “candy man”, Jim never met a stranger.  Whether it be the store, bank or doctor’s office, he would greet you with a Werthers.

Jim was born on May 26, 1932 in Middleton to the late Claude and Mary Addie Cutberth.  He moved to Memphis in the early 1950’s.  It was there he married Mary Ruth Chunn and lived for more than 50 years.  He was an Electrician and member of the IBEW local 474 for 60 years.  In 1997 he retired and moved to Sardis.  After the passing of his wife of 62 years in 2016, Jim was never the same.

Jim leaves behind two daughters Linda Stolting (Ken) of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., Melissa Drum (Doug) of Bartlett; four grandchildren, Heather, Joel, Justin and Callie; and one great-grandchild, Cooper.

R. B. Logan Sr.

R. B. Logan Sr., 69, died Monday, May 14, 2018 at his home in Sardis.

Funeral services will be held Sat., May 26, at 11 a.m. at Cistern Hill Church in Como. Interment will follow at Simon Chapel Cemetery in Sardis. Visitation will be held today from noon until 6 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home.

Logan was born Sept. 27, 1948 to the late R. B. Logan Sr. and Clara Logan in Panola County.

Ezra Morris

Ezra Morris, 62, formerly of Batesville, died Thurs., May 17, 2018.

Funeral services will be held Sat., May 26 beginning at 2 p.m. at Macedonia M. B. Church in Batesville. Pastor Zannie Leland Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow in Concord Church Cemetery in Batesville.

Visitation will be held today from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. A Wake will be held during the last two hours of visitation.

Jerrell Morris

Jerrell Alexander Morris, 27, died Wed., May 16, 2018 at Baptist Hospital in Southaven.

Funeral services will be held Sat., May 26, at Life Changing Outreach Ministries at 11 a.m. with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time. Visitation will also be held today at Rodgers Funeral Home in Coldwater from 5 to 7 p.m. Interment will be held in Macedonia Cemetery in Batesville.

He was born to Tracy Battle. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard.

Charles Lee Rhea IV

Charles Lee Buddy Rhea IV, 64, died Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Funeral services will be Monday, May 28 at 2 p.m. at Bluff Springs M.B. Church, 3840 Central Academy Road, Batesville. Rev. L.C. Smith will officiate. Interment will follow in Batesville Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Sunday, May 27 from 3 to 6 p.m. at West Camp M. B. Church, 157 Hadorn Road, Batesville.

He was born May 28,1953 in Batesville to the late Floyde Rhea Chatmon and Charlie Chatmon.

Erick Jerome Spears

Erick Jerome Spears, 54, died Sunday, May 20, 2018, at Baptist-Desoto Hospital in Southaven.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 26, at 1 p.m. at Batesville Jr. High School. Interment will follow in the Mt. Gillion Church Cemetery.

Visitation service for Mr. Spears will be Friday, May 18, 2018 from 1 to 6 p.m. at Townes Funeral Home, 253 Eureka St., Batesville.

Erick was born July 29, 1963 to Hardle and Mattie Spears of Sardis.  He was very influential in the Panola County area where he served as Youth Coordinator of The Boys and Girls Club, dance teams, and other youth organizations.

Vivian Thomas

Vivian Taylor Thomas, 64, died Monday, May 21, 2018 at Panola Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held Sat., May 26, at 11 a.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary Chapel. Pastor Louis Wilson Sr. will officiate. Interment will follow in Shiloh Church Cemetery in Courtland.

Visitation will be held today from noon until 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary.

Vivian was born Aug. 23, 1953 in Shelby County to Nathaniel Taylor and Ernestine Coppage Taylor. She was retired from Whirlpool and was a member of Spring Hill Asa M.B. Church in Courtland.
