American Legion action heats up as Royals, A’s win

Three pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts as the Royals slipped past the Red Sox 7-5 in American Legion baseball play Tuesday.
Tate Anderson struck out five batters while Tanner Holland and Blaine Cosby fanned four each as the Royals scored three runs each in the first two innings to take a 6-2 lead.
Cosby paced the Royals offensively with a single, triple, and two runs scored. Anderson added an RBI triple in the first while Brock Ware contributed a run-scoring single also in the first.
The Red Sox took a 2-0 lead in the first as Jordan Goforth reached on an error before Stiles Rowland singled to put runners on the corners with no outs.
Graydon Gullick followed with a RBI groundout to drive in Goforth for the first Red Sox run. Dre’ Moore then delivered a double to straight away center field that plated Rowland.
The Royals extended their 3-2 lead in the second with three runs as Jeremy Cedotal led off the frame by getting hit by a pitch. Two batters later, Levi Gee reached on a fielders choice to put runners at first and third with one out.
Cosby then delivered a RBI single to extend the cushion to 4-2. Gee and Cosby later scored on a throwing error.
The Red Sox closed the margin to 6-5 in the third as Moore laced a two-run triple into right that scored Goforth and Rowland. Moore finished the night with three runs batted in while Rowland added two singles and scored two runs.
Jon David Babb added a single in the fourth inning. Moore, Babb and Gullick tossed two innings each for the Red Sox.
The Royals added an insurance run in the fourth as Cosby drew a walk with the bases loaded to force in Mack Boyette who had led off the inning with a single.
A’s-8 Yankees-0
Aidan Williams scored three runs while Briar Busby and Gage Heath registered two singles each in the A’s blanking of the Yankees.
Austin Taylor and Gunner Ward also contributed with singles as the A’s jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one inning. Nathan Walls and Taylor Heafner garnered RBI’s with a walk and fielders choice. Mitch Mitchell walked and scored on a throwing error in the fifth inning.
Williams, Walls and Busby tossed two innings each for the A’s.
