SP drops hammer on Hernando

District games are important in seeding for playoffs and a great test that prepares teams for the playoffs. The Tigers went in Horn Lake looking to go above .500 after going 1-1 in the first two district games. The Tigers would pull out a big win 33-19.
After South Panola went up 6-0 they had a chance to go up by two scores but Patrick Shegog throw his first interception of the threw and Hernando returned the ball all the way down the 10. They only took two plays to punch the ball in and tie the score after they also missed their extra point.
In the second quarter Hernando did not want to fall behind so they put up another score after a 30 yard drive following after a big return from their special teams. They went up after a two yard run and a converted PAT.
South Panola showed their response on the next drive. After getting down to the 38 yard line the Tigers pulled out a big play. Shegog connected with Atarie Bobo on a 38 yard touchdown. Bobo scored after breaking three tackles with some extra effort stretching out across the pylon. With the PAT the Tigers tied the game back up at 13-13.
That score sparked something in South Panola as the defense got the ball back on the first play on possession. Wade Thorton fell on a lose ball after the Hernando quarterback fumbled on the hand off. The Tigers got the ball on two and after four long plays, they finally punched the ball in with Shegog finding Kanoda Lewis from the half yard line. After the made PAT the South Panola went up 20-13.
Hernando would try to cut into the lead before the half and successfully got points on the board. The Tigers fumbled the ball after they were placed inside the ten and Hernando recovered the ball. The Tiger defense held up for four plays and forced Hernando to kick a field goal and make the score 20-16.
After a dropped hail mary attempt the South Panola would not score again until late in the third quarter. The score came from backup running back Derek Cunnigham as he ran the ball in from 14 yards out. After a good PAT from Blaine Ware the Tigers took a 27-16 lead.
The Tigers were on their way to shutting out Hernando in the second half until Shegog threw his second interception of the game. The Tiger defense held up once again with Hernando in good field position. They forced another field goal that cut the deficit to 27-19.
The field goal would not be enough as the Tigers would punch the ball in once more before the game was over. Shegog connected with John Railey on a 52 yard touchdown. They missed the PAT but the Tigers would finish the game with a 33-19 victory.
Shegog finished the night going 17-23 243 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. He also had three carries for 17 yards and a touchdown.
The leading rusher for the night was Cunningham with 17 carries for 22 yards and a touchdown. Other rushers were Quin Bradford with four carries for 11 yards.
Leading the receivers was John Railey with three catches for 71 yards and a touchdown. Other receivers were Bobo with two catches for 38 yards a touchdown; Bradford with a catch for 43 yards; Lewis with four catches for 26 yards and a touchdown; Bo Williams with a catch for eight yards; Jordan Strong with a catch for seven yards; Morris House with a catch for six yards and Barry Flowers with a catch for four yards.
