The North Delta Junior High football team is District Champions after handling the Colts of Bayou Academy 32-0 in their final game of the year.
Coaches were showered with ice and water, parents and fans had phones out for pictures, and players expressed the joy from completing the season undefeated.
The outcome was known early in the game, and anticipation increased with each second coming off of the clock.
The Green Wave came into the game knowing what a win would mean and put together one of the best and complete games of the season.
As Coach Aldison preached afterwards of how proud he was of his team, one could tell that the first-year coach was happy with his players who ooze potential in the coming years.
As for this moment, he seemed nostalgic. All of the hard work and effort put in bore fruit.
As for the players, they were ready to go to Disney world. You do not get many chances to go undefeated in any sport.
Every ounce of sweat and boring repetition had paid off like one could only hope of happening, but it happened.
They won every game and looked good doing it. Practice and hard work in the offseason as well during the season pays off.
In this game, the Green Wave were efficiently effective on both sides of the ball.
From the very beginning, it was North Delta’s playground even though the score only showed 16-0 at halftime.
The first score came on a 20-yard screen pass to Wailes Finke. On the next drive for the defense, Cole Fisher recovered a fumble.
The offense could not capitalize but one drive later added their second touchdown of the evening.
With the ball on the Colt 35 yard line, Ryan Gibson took the snap. He then pump faked to the left side of the field before he hit Drake Barton who had gotten behind the safety.
The 34-yard pass set up a run by Hawk Aldison. This was the Barton drive as he then snagged a two point conversion as he was being tackled to the ground.
He effortlessly caught the ball with one hand he fell to the grass.
On the first drive of the second half, Gibson ripped off a 30 yard scamper before handing it off to Barton who ran for 16 yards to the 10 yard line.
After a few short Aldison runs, Gibson punched it in for six points.
Bayou Academy threatened to score on the Green Wave defense who had dominated most of the game on the next drive.
That was before Blaine Sanders forced a fumble and Gibson picked it up firmly stamping the victory with the stop.
North Delta slowly moved the ball down the field with runs from Gibson, Barton, and Aldison before Gibson ran it 26 yards to the endzone to make it 32-0.
A few moments later, the players were pouring coolers on to coaches and meeting in midfield after another dominating performance.
The players will never forget the season they went undefeated in 2017.
They will look to build on the season when some move to the Varsity team and others look to repeat this season’s performance. Either way, the future is bright for these young talented players.
