James Walker Hastings

HOUSTON, Texas–James Walker Hastings, 77, died Sunday morning, September 10, 2017 at Houston Memorial Hospital in Houston, Texas.
Mr. Hastings was born February 28, 1940 in Batesville to Lucille Ledbetter Hastings and the late James Lafayette Hastings.
He was actively engaged in church activities in Houston. He and his late wife, Judith, operated a home-based business for many years making egg rolls and could not keep up with the demand. He continued his business until his health prohibited it.
Walker served in the Mississippi National Guard during his early life and later in his life held a variety of jobs of which the latest was with Bush International Airport. He had decided to retire shortly before his death.
He is survived by three children, Denise Mozier, Tracy Hastings, both of Houston, and Judith Jeanine Hastings of Washington D.C.; 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren all of Houston; one brother, Mark Hastings of Batesville; 1 sister, Myrt Hastings Guinn of Batesville; 2 nieces, Suzanne Reed of Batesville and Laurie Guinn Huff of Norman, Oklahoma; and 1 nephew, William Z. Reed of San Antonio, Texas.
His wife and one son, Stacy Hastings, precede him in death.
His family will greatly miss him and his silly sense of humor as will his friends here in the Batesville area.

Jake Joiner Jr.

BATESVILLE–Jake Joiner, Jr., age 74, passed away at Panola Medical Center on September 7, 2017.
Jake was born December 31, 1942 to the late Jake Abraham Joiner Sr. and Audrey Foster Joiner in Panola County.
Jake worked in construction most of his life. He was a member of the MS National Guard and Black Jack Presbyterian Church.
In his spare time he enjoyed the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing.
Survivors include four children, Renallda Burnett of Batesville, Tonya J. Champion of Senatobia, Archie Joiner, and Reggie Joiner, both of Batesville; one brother, Tommy Joiner of Batesville and one sister, Robbie Trotter, also of Batesville; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The family held a private graveside service for Mr. Joiner on Saturday, September 9, 2017.

Arthur Eugene Pool

OXFORD–Arthur Eugene “Art” Pool, age 83, passed away Thursday evening, September 7, 2017, at his home in Oxford.
Funeral services for Mr. Pool were held Monday, September 11 in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. Interment was at Forrest Memorial Park. Rev. Bradley Burnett officiated.
Art was born September 21, 1933 to the late Harold F. Pool and Alice Lucille Knorr Pool in Madison County, IN.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.
Art was the owner of Art’s T.V. Service for 45 years in Batesville and Oxford.
When not working on T.V.’s, Art had many hobbies. He enjoyed fishing and bird hunting. He was good at wood working and proud to be a member of the NRA. He could often be found searching for Morel mushrooms. Art was of the Baptist faith.
Those he leaves behind to cherish his precious memory include his loving wife, Billie Henry Pool of Oxford;his children, Marina Ann Pool of Anderson, IN., Alice Lucille Pool of Oxford, Tanya Lillian Pool of Somerville, Tenn., and Vincent Eugene Pool of Batesville; his siblings, Beverly Wallis of Ellwood, IN., Mary Alice Boyland of Longview, TX., Suzanne Biddle of Elwood, IN., Vickie Kinnaman also of Elwood, Robert Pool and Randy Pool, both of Marion, IN.; stepdaughters Jennifer Jackson Tomlinson of Walnut, Emily Jackson Cofer of Abbeville, and Marcia Jackson Houston of Oxford; 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Art is preceded in death by one child, Ray Eugene Pool.
