Juveniles re-arrested after break-in at Corner Store

By John Howell
Batesville police have re-arrested some of the same group of juveniles charged in December 5 Kyle Street vehicle burglaries for a burglary at the Corner Store at the Van Voris/Pearson Street intersection.
Deputy Police Chief Jimmy McCloud said that an alarm early Friday, December 9 brought patrol officers who found the store’s doors broken out and cigarettes missing.
Shortly afterward, a patrol officer discovered a fist-size hole in the front door glass at Jimmy Smith’s Pawn Shop, also on Van Voris.
Smith said that he thought burglars had attempted to reach through the hole to unlock the door from the inside but were unsuccessful.
“Youth detention laws say we can only hold juveniles for 72 hours,” McCloud said.
A thief or thieves also burglarized an unlocked vehicle parked at Batesville Presbyterian Church Wednesday night, December 14, McCloud said.
The vehicle owner discovered items missing from the vehicle when when he left a meeting at the church.
“I don’t know what it’s going to take to get people to lock their cars,” McCloud said.
