Robert L. Butler

MEMPHIS–-Robert L. Butler, 86, died Friday November, 25, 2016, at Methodist University in Memphis.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Sardis. Interment will be held in Pleasant Green Cemetery in Sardis. Visitation will be held  Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time at Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Butler was born March 9, 1930 in Panola County to the late Joe Lee Butler and Ella Taylor Butler.

Mildred C. Dean

SARDIS––Mildred C. Dean, 85, died Monday, November 28, 2016, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Green Church in Sardis. Visitation will be held today 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home. Internment will be held at Pleasant Green Cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home has charge.
Dean was born March 14, 1931, in Panola, to the late Dan Dean Sr. and Elmer Olier Dean.

Charles Earl Douglas

Charles Earl “Mouse Cat” Douglas, 40, died Friday, November 25, 2016, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Pastor H.P. Washington will officiate. Interment will be at Lake View Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary.
Douglas, born May 23, 1976, in Marks, to Charles Harris of East Moline, Ill. and Katie Douglas of Sledge, was a self employed barber and a member of Lake View M.B. Church.
Survivors along with his parents include: his wife, Cassandra Douglas of Oxford; two sons, Charles Douglas “C.J.” Jr. and Denarrius Hooks, both of Oxford; two daughters, Kayla Gaines of Crenshaw and Aneisha Bogan of Darling; one brother, Bobby Wright of Crenshaw; sisters, Aundra Douglas of Sledge, Jessica Douglas of Greenville, April Small of Walls and Latoya Banks of East Moline, Ill.

Glennie Mae Houston

TILLATOBA-Glennie Mae Houston, 98, died Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at her residence.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Abundant Harvest Church in Charleston. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be held at Rocky Branch Cemetery. Rev. Carl Ray will officiate. Clark-Williams Funeral Home of Grenada has charge.
Houston, born Sept. 10, 1918 to the late Alfred and Sally Morris Johnson, was a retired Head Start teacher. She graduated from Macedonia School, Tallahatchie General Hospital Nurses Aid Program and in March 2015, she was honored as one of three recipients of the Charleston Arts and Revitalization Effort’s “Living Legends” award. She was one of 54 women from the Mississippi Delta profiled in a recently published book, “Delta Jewels: In Search of My Grandmother’s Wisdom” by Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Alysia Burton Steele. Grand Marshall of the 2014 Charleston Martin Luther King Day Parade, recognized as one of the Great Women of God by the Cross of Christ Love Center in Charleston.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Houston and son, Larry Houston.
Survivors include: two daughters, Marva Moore of Randolph, Mass. and Annette Johnson (Greg) of Chicago; sons, Charles Houston (Janie) of Grenada and Walter Christopher Houston (Linda) of Clinton, Md., Mark Houston of Jackson; sisters-in-law, Ruth Johnson and Allie V. Johnson, both of Batesville.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to: Community Friends of ICS: Attention: Fannie Lampley, P.O. Box 5711, Holly Springs, Miss. 38634 (Memo: Eva Covington Head Start Center Scholarship) and National Charleston Day Organization Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 21219, Chicago, Ill., 60621.

Margie Katherine Williams

Margie Katherine Goodwin Williams, 94, of Batesville, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2016, at Yalobusha County Nursing Home in Water Valley.
Graveside services were held on Wednesday, November 30 at Magnolia Cemetery in Batesville.
She was born on April 8, 1922 in Milan, Tenn., to the late Dovie Leona Morgan Goodwin and Elver James Goodwin. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Batesville and was a retired hairdresser.
Survivors include: one daughter, Edna Patricia Sutton Butts of Dickson, Tenn.; two sons, Dwain Sutton (Jerry) of West Monroe, La. and Marcus Steven Sutton of Batesville;  one sister, Irene Goodwin Oliphant; three brothers, Travis Goodwin, Gerald Goodwin and Prentis Goodwin; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Harry William Sutton and Harold Doyle “Pete” Williams; her parents; three sisters and four brothers.
Memorial contributions may be sent to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 797, Batesville, MS  38606.  Dickins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
