Bobby Louis Bruton

Mr. Bobby Louis Bruton, age 72, formerly of Memphis, TN. passed away at his home on Batesville, MS. Saturday, November 19, 2016. He is the husband of Marsha Bruton of Batesville.
Per Mr. Bruton’s wishes, his body has been donated to the Genesis Program in Memphis and there will be no services held.
Bobby was born in Eudora, MS to Herbert Alford Bruton and Thelma Louise Hobbs Bruton on August 15, 1944. He was a driver for nearly 30 years for Roadway Trucking in Memphis. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Marsha Hectrone Bruton of Batesville, his mother, Thelma Louise Hobbs Bruton of Lake Cormorant, MS., his children; Bobbie Bates of Senatobia, Robin Avant of Southaven, Michelle Jones of Memphis, TN., Jeff Bruton of Horn Lake, MS., Larry King of Southaven, MS., and Jason King of Batesville, his 2 brothers; Herb Bruton of Seabring, FL., and Ken Bruton of Lake Cormorant, MS., 12 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren.

Minister Herbert Holmes

BATESVILLE––Minister Herbert Holmes “Po Boy”, 60, died November 17, 2016, at his residence.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Power House COGIC in Batesville. Pastor Leon Gaston will officiate. Visitation will be held Friday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Burial will be held in Eureka Church Cemetery.
Mr. Holmes, born Aug. 11, 1956, in Batesville, to Will Holmes and Rosezetta Jones Holmes, was a member of Power House COGIC.
Survivors include: his wife, Gloria Holmes of Batesville; two step sons, Henry Foster Jr. and Cory Foster, both of Memphis; one brother, David Holmes of Batesville; two sisters, Mary Reed and Clara White, both of Memphis; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Marcus T. Lee

BATESVILLE––Marcus T. Lee, 28, died November 17, 2016.
Services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Visitation will be held Friday from 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Pastor Nehemiah Martin will officiate. Burial will be held at Shiloh Church Cemetery in Courtland.
Lee, born July 5, 1988, in Batesville, to Demitra Lee Avant of Batesville and Lindsey Lee Wells Jr., was a pharmacy technician.
Survivors include: his mother, Demitra Lee Avant of Batesville; two sons, Jimmy Flowers of Chicago and Collins Chapman of Batesville; one daughter, Messiah Holmes of Batesville; two brothers, Traven Wells of Birminham, Ala. and Robert Lee of Batesville and six sisters, Jasmine Lee of Courtland, Iantea Lee, Kyra Purnell, Shicora Barksdale, all of Batesville, Tayla Wells of Birmingham and Jasmine Wells of Flint, Mich.

Murdis Cade Smith

BATESVILLE––Murdis Cade Smith, 80, died Saturday, November 19, 2016, at Methodist Hospital, Memphis, TN.
Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Macedonia M.B. Church. Visitation will be held Friday, 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Marks Funeral Home and Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at Macedonia. Dr. Zannie Leland will officiate. Burial will be held at Macedonia M.B. Church Cemetery in Batesville.
Smith, born February, 23, 1936, to the late Charlie Cade and Annie Bell Menzie-Hall, was a homemaker.

Leroy Johnson

POPE––Leroy Johnson, 102, died November 18, 2016, at Baptist Hospital in Kosciusko.
Services will be held Sunday, November 27 at 1:30 p.m. at Pope Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and also Sunday 12:30 p.m. until service time at Pope Chapel Church. Pastor Nehemiah Martin will officiate. Burial will be held in Pope Chapel Cemetery.
Johnson, born Feb. 18, 1914, in Pope, to the late Buck Johnson and Nannie Bell Johnson, was a farmer and a member of Pope Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church.
