Burn ban still in effect in Panola
but grilling the turkey is okay

A fire ban is still in effect in all but five coastal Mississippi Counties, according to Panola County Emergency Management Coordinator Daniel Cole, who said last weekend’s rain may have dampened the ground, but vegetation on top of the soil is as dry as it was before the rain.
Hopefully, Cole noted, rain predicted for Wednesday and Friday of this week may be enough to sway Phil Bryant into dropping the gubernatorial burn ban.
The ban is all inclusive covering farm, forest service burns, fire pits, burn barrels and fire rings.
“I hate it for farmers,” Cole said while realizing that farmers need to burn off stubble to ready fields for winter crops.
Not included in the burn ban are propane grills and heaters and charcoal grills according to Cole, who noted those found in violation could face misdemeanor fines of $100-$500.
