Sardis Veterans Day Ceremonies 11/11/2016

Veterans Day Ceremonies and parade were held in Sardis today with about 120 veterans and patrons attending. Jim Hardin, Commander of Arthur Armes Post 127 spoke in honor of the late James McClure Jr. Master of ceremonies was Bobby Kent, Vice Commander Post 127.

The opening prayer was by retired U.S. Navy Captain, John White.
Sardis Mayor Billy Russell welcomed guests and the National Anthem was sung by Paula Lundren, Martha Fant Hays and Lee Dixon (members of Sardis United Methodist Church) and Peggy Rayburn (member of First Baptist Church of Sardis).
U.S. Army Sergeant First Clase (retired) Leroy Matthews was the guest spaker. Veterans were recognized and stood to introduce themselves.


David Tribble, minister of music at Crowder Baptist Church played taps in closing.
After the program, veterans and guests were treated to hot dogs and hamburgers served at the First Baptist Church.
