North Delta boys basketball shows no mercy to Lee, Ark.

By Will Dickins
North Delta boys showed little mercy to Lee, Ark. Thursday winning 54-14.
ND Boys 54, Lee Academy 14
Lee Academy was no match for the Green Wave as they ran away with it for a 40-point victory Thursday night.
In the first quarter, the North Delta defense held Lee Academy to just two points. Those two points came with 17 seconds left to go.  Offensively, the Green Wave scored 20 points in the first quarter to begin the rout.
The game started with back and forth baskets from Joseph Cox and Alex Greenlee.  Cole Devazier found Cox on back-to-back pick and rolls for easy buckets.
Greenlee then slashed his way to the hoop for layups as he launched himself over defenders. The two would combine for 14 first quarter points.
The second quarter was much of the same as Luke Lewis and Ely Bryant hit back to back threes before Greenlee made the most of an and one opportunity.  This created another big swing in the game as the half ended at 36-6 North Delta.
The second half saw the Green Wave slow things down more offensively.  On the other side, Lee Academy could not find any scoring.  They scored eight second half points.
North Delta began to cruise through the third quarter and into the fourth quarter.  The fourth quarter’s scoring was done mainly by Nelson Howell as he muscled his way through the paint for the final six points of the night.
Leading in scoring were Joseph Cox (13), Alex Greenlee (9), and Nelson Howell (8).  A slew of Green Wave players followed them and they were: Avery Rowland (7), Ely Bryant (5), Chris Burchfield (5), Luke Lewis (3), Cole Devazier (2), and Carter Gee (2).
North Delta came away with their first win of the season with an easy win over Lee Academy and will head to West Memphis for a rematch Friday.
ND JH boys 37, Lee (Arkansas) 15
The Junior High Boys used a big second and third quarter to pull out the W Thursday night.  Collin Hartman paced the team in scoring while the team’s defense held Lee Academy to just four points throughout the second and third quarters.  That was the difference in the game as the Green Wave ran away with it.
The game started closer than North Delta wanted it with the score being 5-0 through two minutes of play.  Lee Academy answered with two free throws and a three pointer before North Delta added six more points to finish the period.
That is when the defining run happened.  Hartman and Walt Miller came out of the gates scoring 12 points to begin things.  Hartman ended with 18 points on the night to lead the team.  He was followed by: Ryan Gibson, seven points; Miller, five points; Jordan Cox, four points; Layton Wells, two points; and Matthew Woods, one point. The game seemed like it was over as soon as the second quarter started as the Green Wave cruised through the rest of the game for the 37-15 victory.
