Cougars make second round

The Cougars have done something that they have not done in two years which is go to second round playoff. They defeated the Benton County Buccaneers Friday night 48-22.
The Cougars jumped out early on the Buccaneers after Kenneth Jefferson found Jamarvis Echols for one of his three touchdowns of the night. After getting the two point conversion they led 8-0.
On the first drive, the Buccaneers drove the entire field down to the one, then disater struck as they fumbled and Sylvonta Oliver scored on a 99-yard fumble recovery. The Cougars got the conversion and pushed the lead 14-0.
That score did not last long as the Cougar defense was dominant. Jefferson connected with Echols again on a 46-yard pass that found the endzone. The Cougars pushed their lead to 22-0 after failing to get the conversion.
The Buccaneers could not find an answer to the Cougars on defense nor offense as right before the half Jefferson found the endzone again after getting the ball back on a Tyler Shorter interception. That score pushed the lead to 28-0.
Coming out of the half the Buccaneers made adjustments scoring two plays into the third quarter. After a 22-yard run the Buccaneers cut the lead to 28-6.
The Cougars did not let that stand for too long because they scored after nine plays on a Lavonta Towns 25-yard touchdown run. After getting the two-point conversion and took their lead 36-6.
The Cougar defense continued to dominate after Shorter caught his second interception for the night. Then the Cougar offense scored after a big run from T’Mayera Russell took them down to the 10-yard line after a 74-yard run. Then, Jefferson put the ball in the endzone on his own legs, pushing the lead 42-6.
The Buccaneers found the endzone again after a seven -ard run that cut the lead 42-14. Then the Bucs forced the Cougars to one of the few punts of the night on a three and out. Then they found a way to put the ball in the endzone again on a six yard run. They got the two point conversion and cut the lead from 42-22.
The Cougars decided to let the JV put up the final blow in the game after David Burton scored on a 36-yard run. That took the lead to a final to 48-22.
