John Thomas Hentz
John Thomas Hentz, aged 86, a resident of Cleveland went to be with the Lord on Tuesday October 18, 2016 at his home. John was born July 9, 1930 in Batesville Mississippi. He attended Batesville High School. He also attended Northwest Junior College in Senatobia MS., on a football scholarship. He attended college at Memphis State University.
John served in the Air Force for four years during the Korean War and while serving he played baseball for the Air Force.
He met his wife of 61 years Nan Marie Gibson in Tutwiler MS. and was married in 1955. In that same year he began his long career in the finance industry. He managed the Commercial Credit office in Cleveland TN., for over 20 years. After retiring from Commercial Credit he joined Pioneer Credit and served as a consultant for over 15 years.
John had a passion for hunting, golf and Ole Miss athletics. He was a longtime member of the Cleveland Country Club and routinely played in the choose-up and the Friday night two-ball. He loved to spend time with his family enjoying watching his grandchildren play sports. He loved to watch golf, softball and baseball games.
John was a 43 year member of Broad Street United Methodist Church in Cleveland where he was also a member of the Wesley Class. He also enjoyed attending Wednesday night Bible Study. He was a member of the Sons of America Revolution and the American Legion.
He is survived by his loving wife Nan Hentz his daughter Mary Grantham and her husband Jay, his son Ricky Hentz and his wife Angie, grandchildren Sara Shoffner and her husband Jonathan, Katherine Grantham, Sam Grantham, Mary Elizabeth Hentz and Will Hentz and many nieces as well.
A Remembrance of Life Services were held Saturday at Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Randy Martin and Rev. Skip White officiating. Interment was held Sunday at Magnolia Cemetery in Batesville with Rev. Lauren Luckey officiating.
The family request that in lieu of flowers donations be made in John’s memory to Broad Street United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 155 Central Ave. Cleveland TN., 37311. Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee St. Chapel has charge of the arrangements
