Enid Lake slows summer activities

By Enid Lake Park Rangers
End of Summer Activities
As the month of August gets underway, school starts and summer activities begin to slow at Enid Lake.
Enid Lake personnel reminds all visitors to be aware of school buses that will be traveling around the rural roads as well as the main highways. Buses will be on the roads mornings and afternoons as well as weeknights while traveling to and from athletic events.
August is also the time when the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Enid Lake begins the annual draw down of the lake in hopes of reaching conservation pool of 230 feet above mean sea level (M.S.L) by December 1.
The lake level at Enid is currently 249.30 feet above M.S.L with the gates opened a total of three feet. The outlet channel provides anglers another chance to land the popular flathead, and channel catfish and also provides a place to catch crappie, bass, and bream.
The staff at Enid Lake reminds all water enthusiasts with the annual draw down, Enid Lake water levels will be declining daily. With declining lake levels boaters are to watch for underwater obstructions/hazards while navigating the lake.
Swimmers visiting designated swimming beaches should always stay on the beach side of the orange barrier floats located at all designated swimming beaches. Enid Lake Park Rangers will be monitoring water depths at all beaches daily and will be trying to keep barrier floats at proper depth of 5 feet.
Physically Challenged
Fishing Day
“Fishing Day for the Physically Challenged” is scheduled for September 10.
Physically challenged individuals of all ages are invited to Chickasaw Hill Recreation Area for a day of fishing, food and fellowship.  Park Rangers and Volunteers will be standing by in this area to greet and load fishing participants onto pontoon boats.
Boats are furnished and operated by volunteers who take these guests onto the lake for a morning of fishing.  After a morning of fishing they will return for a fish fry with all the trimmings, which is prepared and served by volunteers of Chickasaw Hill Recreation Area and community.
After lunch, a drawing is held for door prizes that have been furnished by local businesses and volunteers.
