Elaine Appleton
SAUCIER––Elaine Whitehurst Appleton, 71, passed away at her home in Saucier, August 4, 2016.
Funeral services for Ms. Appleton will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 10, in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Cold springs Cemetery near Sardis. The family will begin receiving friends at 10 a.m. on Wednesday prior to the service.
Elaine was born March 5, 1945, in Andalusia, Ala. to the late Huey G. and Della Myrtle Radford Whitehurst.
She retired from the Frito Lay Company and later went on to become a Certified Nurses Assistant. Elaine enjoyed many activities outside of the work place. She loved being outdoors and fishing, and also enjoyed playing Bingo. Most of all, she loved playing with her grandchildren.
Elaine is survived by her three daughters, Cynthia Elaine Higdon of Saucier, Caralene Appleton Meadows of Sardis, Amber Lynn Jackson of Andalusia; son, Casey Easley of Denham Springs, La.; sister, Betty Haroldson of Andalusia; two brothers, James Whitehurst of Dozier, Ala., Joe Whitehurst of Andalusia; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, William Brooks Appleton and a son, Jamie Skipper Easley.
Eleanor Payne Edmond
MEMPHIS––Eleanor Payne Edmond, 64, died Saturday, July 30, 2016, at Graceland Nursing Center.
Services were held Saturday, August 6, at Walton Chapel Church in Sardis.
Edmond was born March 25, 1952, to Willie Payne and Cora Lee Williams Payne.
Martha Faye Fondren Flowers
SARDIS–Martha Faye Fondren Flowers, 50, died Wed., August 3, 2016, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Missississippi.
Services will be held Thursday, Aug. 11, at noon at New Rock Hill M.B. Church in Sardis. Visitation will be held Wednesday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. Pastor Charles Becton will officiate. Interment will be held in New Rock Hill Cemetery.
Flowers, born Dec. 1, 1965, in Sardis, to Clendell Fondren and Mary Turner Butler of Batesville, was a member of New Rock Hill M.B. Church in Sardis.

BATESVILLE – deYampert Brame “Dee” Garner, age 46,died Sunday, August 7, 2016 at his home.
Funeral services are incomplete at this time and will be announced as soon as they have been finalized.
Pauline Mclellan Horne
DARLING–Pauline McLellan Horne, 92, retired postal service employee, died August 4, 2016 in Greenwood. Graveside services were August 6 at Seneasha Cemetery in Attala County.
Jerry Curtis ‘Curt’ Tanksley
Jerry Curtis “Curt” Tanksley, Jr., age 45, passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Memorial services were held Saturday, August 6, at Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater, Texas. The family will also be having a memorial service in Batesville at a later date, which is yet to be determined.
Curt was born May 17, 1971 in Greenwood to the late Jerry Curtis Tanksley, Sr. and Clara Jones Tanksley. He was the former owner of Superior Flooring, having worked in the Longview, Texas, area, as well as, in Mississippi for many years before his cancer diagnoses. While growing up, Curt enjoyed playing baseball and shooting pool. He had a love for music and playing his guitar. In Curt’s spare time, he had a special interest in rebuilding old cars.
Curt’s loving memory will be most cherished by his loving family, which include his wife, Polly Moore Tanksley of Marshall, Texas; daughter, Erika Grantham of Longview, Texas; three sons, Jerry Curtis “J.C” Tanksley, III (Kendra) of Gladewater, Texas, Seth Tanksley of Houston, Texas, Matthew Tanksley of Marshall, Texas; mother, Clara Jones Tanksley of Longview, Texas; two sisters, Donna Tanksley Scott of Kilgore, Texas, Kathy Tanksley Simmons of Batesville; two grandchildren, Hayden Faith Tanksley and Hunter Tanksley.
Mary Jean Bowden Thomas
SARDIS––Mary Jean Bowden Thomas, 63, died Saturday, July 30, 2016 in Tate County.
Services were held Saturday, August 6, at Liberty Hill Church in Como. Interment was in Liberty Hill Church Cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home had charge.
Thomas was born Oct. 9, 1952, in Panola, to the late Katie Mae Bowden Wheeler.
Mabry Suzanne Turner
Mabry Suzanne Turner, 4-year-old daughter of Andrea Rose and Bobby Turner, passed away Saturday evening, August 6, 2016, at Tallahatchie General Hospital.
The family will celebrate and remember Mabry on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at 6:30 P.M. in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with interment to follow in Forrest Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. prior to the service.
Mabry was born May 10, 2012, in Batesville, to Bobby Turner and Andrea Rose. She was full of life and energy. Life for Mabry was very simple and complex, all rolled into one. Whether it was playing dress-up, Barbie’s or putting on her mothers’ make-up, she stayed busy all the time.
Mabry was a girly-girl at times but also loved getting dirty playing in mud puddles. She loved singing, dancing like a ballerina and watching over her brother, which she adored. In Mabry’s down time, she enjoyed coloring, watching cartoons and spending as much time with her NeNe, Aunt Allison Rose.
Mabry’s loving memory will continue to live on through her parents, Bobby Turner and Andrea Rose, both of Batesville; two brothers, Jason Cade Turner of Batesville, Clayton James Turner of Grenada; maternal grandparents, Melanie and Daniel Beard of Batesville, Jamie and Allen Rose of Courtland; paternal grandparents, Shelia Turner of Batesville; great-grandparents, Bonnie and James Thornton of Batesville, George and Barbara Rose of Pope, Lenore Victor of Highland, Ind., Mary Bright of Batesville; step-grandparents, Barbara Beard of Courtland, Patsy and James Claspell of Pontotoc; and two cousins, Sabrina Beard and Charlie Beard.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather Ralph Turner, great-grandfathers James Robert Taylor and Bud Bright.
A memorial fund has been made at First Security Bank in Batesville. The family asks that anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution to forward those to First Security Bank, P.O. Box 690, Batesville, Miss. 38606.
Samuel B. Vick Jr.
Samuel B. Vick, Jr., age 96, passed away Saturday morning, August 6, 2016, at Landmark Nursing Home in Baton Rouge, La. He was the widower Janie E. Vick.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, August 11, 2016, in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with interment to follow in Forrest Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Sam was born April 21, 1920, in Panola County, to the late Samuel B. Vick Sr. and Lois Monteith Vick.
He was a retired industrial engineer and honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force in World War II.
Sam is survived by his three daughters, Vivian Vick Lehman of Baton Rouge; Diane Vick McMahan of Woodstock, Ga., Janie Ruth Vick Gibbons of Tulsa, Okla.; three sisters, Lois Ann Roberts of Surprise, Ariz., Willola Sullivant of Pope, Jane Nicholas of Wichita Falls, Texas; brother, Conner Vick of Pope; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
