“I’ve had requests to please bring it back,” Dugger said during Tuesday’s meeting of the mayor and board of aldermen.

“Everyone wants it back down here,” Alderman Stan Harrison added.

A one-time tradition of holding the ceremonies honoring Veterans in November on Veteran’s Day and the war dead in May on Memorial Day came to an end over a misunderstanding some think.

The city’s insurer was concerned about liability for activities at Memorial Park and city leaders asked those using it to provide proof of insurance.

City Attorney Colmon Mitchell noted that he was under the impression that if the city sponsored an event, it was covered under the city’s insurance policy.

“I don’t want it to conflict with anyone,” Dugger, who had addressed the subject in a previous meeting, said explaining that if other services were held the city could change the time of day to do theirs.

The board asked Mayor Jerry Autrey to look into bringing the two events back to Veteran’s Memorial Park beginning November 11 on Veteran’s Day.
