A’s blank Yankees in blowout; Royals close Red Sox early

The Batesville A’s wrapped up the 13-15 year-old American Legion regular season championship with a 13-0 blanking of the Yankees in four innings Thursday night.
Decota Perry and Max Dunlap combined on a one-hitter while Forrest Pierce drove in four runs with two doubles and a triple to lead the A’s offensively. Perry struck out all six batters he faced in two innings on the mound with Dunlap walking one and fanning two. Hunter West broke up the no hit bid with a two-out single in the fourth.  The A’s pitching staff has yet to surrender a run in the last 13 innings.
Tanner Jaudon, Kameron Burns and Dunlap all singled in the winning cause while Perry added an RBI double in a five-run first inning. Bo Williams, Drew Dunlap, Jaudon, Pierce and Gavin Towles scored two runs each for the 8-1 A’s.
Ty Hodges, Hunter West and Caleb West saw time on the pitching mound for the Yankees who fell to 5-4 on the season.

A four-run first inning propelled the Royals to the victory in the opening game. Dalton Barefoot got the barrage started with an RBI double that scored Keshaun Lantern who led off the game with a walk.
Brandon Phelps and Dre’ Moore followed with singles before Patrick Oramo delivered a run producing single later in the frame. Phelps added another single in the sixth while Moore tripled. Brett Goss delivered an RBI single in the fifth that plated Oramo.
The Red Sox (2-7) scored its only runs in the second on a two run single by Taylor Hawkins. Shawn Payne and Gunner Ward tallied singles for the Sox while Ian Cole led off the home half of the first with a triple.
Nathan Walls, Denver Brown, Luke Weldon and Ward all saw pitching time for the Red Sox.
