‘Fest anticipation really rises with skin in the game

My excitement level rose when I turned through the Square on the way to the office Thursday morning and saw that the Happy Days carnival equipment had arrived for Springfest — Batesville’s signature homecoming and festival weekend.
It’s time for my annual indulgence in a funnel cake.
I further admit, if you will indulge my vanity as well as I will indulge my appetite, that anticipation really rose the day before upon learning that the band that my grandsons have played in for years is featured on Saturday’s schedule. They had changed their name since I last saw them play.
When I first saw “Aviators” in the lineup several weeks back, I didn’t realize who it was. They had played in 2011 as “5 and 2,” then again in 2013 as “Triple R.”
Now they’re scheduled again for Saturday — Hunt and Nelson Howell, Adam and Sam Sullivan and Ryan Bridges. By my reckoning, subject to correction, the two younger members of this group were around 12 years old at their first Springfest appearance. Many of you were very complimentary then and again at their 2013 appearance. Three are now well into college and the youngest a rising high school junior. I hope you will get a chance to hear them Saturday afternoon along with the complete lineup of talent, fun, Races for Paws, games, rides, food and, of course, funnel cakes that await Springfest revelers on Friday and Saturday.
