Linda Dahl Bridges, age 68, passed away May 2, 2016 at Baptist Memorial Hospital of North MS in Oxford.
The family held a memorial service for Linda at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church.
Linda was born in Charleston on October 3, 1947 to the late Neal Slaughter and Virginia Slaughter.
Those left behind to cherish her precious memory include two sons; Randy Dahl of Grenada, and Otey Dahl of Batesville, one sister; Eunice “Pete” Mills of Pope, one brother; “Slick” Slaughter of Grenada, four grandchildren; Ashley Dahl, Kayla Dahl, Cody Neal Dahl and Randy Kyle Dahl.
In addition to her parents, Linda is preceded in death by two siblings.
Wells Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Clarice Ward Powell, 94, of Como passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – DeSoto in Southaven.
Mrs. Powell was born on September 18, 1921 in Smith County to the late Martha Smith Craft and Moulder Craft. She was a member of the Church of Christ and Eastern Star.
Mrs. Powell was a loving mother and grandmother, a wonderful seamstress who loved to quilt and she was an avid gardener.
She is survived by six daughters, Marjorie Ward Hutchison (Royce) of Como, Elizabeth Ward Graham (Dale) of Titusville, FL, Bobbie Ward Lockhart (Tom) of Carlsbad, CA, Lynda Ward Harris of Sardis, Edna Ward Still of Como, and Charlotte Ward Jackson (Tommy) of Como,; one son, Hubert L. Ward (Gloria) of Sardis; twenty grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; and nineteen great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Hubert Joe Ward and Thomas Powell.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 11 a.m. in the Sardis Chapel of Ray-Nowell Funeral Home. Burial followed in Friendship Cemetery in Como.
Visitation was held in the funeral home on Tuesday, May 3.
Memorial contributions may be made to Peach Creek Baptist Church or to Pleasant Grove Volunteer Fire Department. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
COURTLAND––Corvetta R. Spears, 36, died April 29, 2016, in Courtland.
Services will be held Saturday, May 7 at Batesville Junior High School Auditorium. Pastor Walter Newsom will officiate.
Visitation will be held Friday from 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary. The body will lie in repose at Batesville Junior High School from 1 p.m. until service time. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
Spears, born March 27, 1980, in Clarksdale, to Hardle Spears of Sardis and Mattie Butler Spears of Sardis, graduated from South Panola High School. She was a member of Mt. Gillion M.B. Church in Sardis.
Survivors along with her parents include: two daughters, Ki’mya Spears and Kennli Spears, both of Sardis; four brothers, Ronnie Kuykendall of Antelope, Calif., Erick Spears of Batesville, Terrence Spears of Jackson and Harold Spears of Memphis; two sisters, her twin, Corvida Spears of Sardis and Dorothy Walton Baker of Montgomery, Ala.
