Dorothy Appleton Duke Ford

Dorothy Appleton Duke Ford, 80, widow of Bobby Ray Ford and William “Bill” Duke, died Saturday, April 23, 2016 in Charleston.
Graveside services were held Monday at Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Clay Baker officiating. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Mrs. Ford, born November 19, 1935 to Ernest F. and Bessie Appleton. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church of Sardis and was retired from Spring Industries of Sardis.
Survivors include: two daughters, Ann Duke Walker of Walls and Billie Duke Lawrence of Batesville; two sisters,  Jewell Appleton McGehee of Sardis and Laura Appleton Harden of Nesbit; brother: Macel Appleton of Sardis; one grandson, William Kieley “Will” Lawrence and a great-grandson: Hoyt Lawrence.
She was preceded in death by: sisters, Corinne Scruggs, Martha Fowler and Irma Allen and brothers,  Bill Appleton and Ernest Appleton Jr..

Shirley Marie Hall

ENID–Shirley Marie Hall, 69, died April 20 in Southaven. Funeral services were held Saturday at Brantley-Phillips Funeral Home of Hernando. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery at Teasdale.
She was an LPN.

Brian Hudson, 41, passed away, April 21, 2016 near Batesville.
Services were held Sunday at Wells Funeral Home. Mr. Michael Bates officiated. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Brian was born December 2, 1974 to William Charles Hudson and Diana Daniels Hudson Miller in Panola County. He was a construction worker during his lifetime and a member of Courtland Church of Christ.

Johnnie Alvin Johnson

BATESVILLE––Johnnie Alvin Johnson, 72, died Saturday, April 6, 2016, at his residence.  
Services were held Monday, April 18 at Wells Funeral Home in Batesville. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Johnson, born in Memphis to the late Leroy Johnson and Frances Irene Warren Johnson, proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was an electrician by trade. He enjoyed listening to country music, gardening, watching sports and cooking. His favorite teams were the Kansas City Chiefs and the Oklahoma Sooners.
Survivors include: two daughters, Carol Ashby of Locke Station and Angie Hinton of Batesville; one son; Johnny Johnson Jr., of Olive Branch; one sister, Charlotte Johnson of Steele, Mo.; two brothers, Barney Johnson of Owens Crossroads, Ala. and Roy Lee Johnson of Missouri, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Johnnie is preceded in death by his son, Sammy Lewis Hazzard Johnson; three sisters, Edna Wiseman, Ann Scroggins, and Virginia McLemore, and two brothers; Billy Johnson and Richard Johnson.

Vernon Glenn “Peanut” Martin

Vernon Glenn “Peanut” Martin 57, died Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Region One Medical Center in Memphis.
Services were held Sunday at Batesville First Baptist Church. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Dr. Tommy Snyder officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Born in Panola County October 10, 1958 to Margaret Bernice Martin Fox and the late Noel Wayne Martin, “Peanut” as he was named at birth by his nurses due to his size, was a faithful member of Batesville First Baptist Church. During his years on this earth, he enjoyed reading, going to church, and had an incredible love for his family.
Survivors include: his wife, Emily Rowland Martin of Batesville; one daughter, Carrie Ann Martin of Batesville; his mother, Margaret Bernice Martin Fox of Pope; two brothers; Terry Martin of Clarksdale and Keith Martin of Pope; two sisters; Michelle Willard of and Melissa Carpenter, both of Clarksdale; his uncle, Gary Martin (Carole) of Batesville and a host of uncles and aunts.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents; R.V. and Allie Martin, and maternal grandparents; Haywood and Margaret Burns.

L.B. Sorrells

BATESVILLE –L.B. Sorrells, 88, passed away at his daughter’s home in Batesville on April 22, 2016.
Funeral services for Mr. Sorrells were held Monday, April 25, 2016 at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Rusty Robertson officiated. Burial was in Hebron Cemetery in Sardis.
Sorrells was born March 16, 1928, to the late Leroy Sorrells and Minnie McCormack Sorrels in Quitman County, served his Country in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Hebron Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Edna Diane Sorrells Jenkins and her infant twin sister, Deloris Monneyhand and one brother, Tom Sorrells.
Survivors include: his wife, Edna M. Samuels Sorrells of Sardis; daughter, Pat Sorrells Stokes of Batesville; three sons, Russell Lynn Sorrells, Kenneth Bob Sorrells and Floyd Randy Sorrells, all of Sardis; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Curtis Wayne Tutor

COURTLAND – Curtis Wayne Tutor, 84, died Sunday, April 24, 2016 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi in Oxford.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at 1p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Batesville.  Burial will follow in Forrest Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation will be held in the church on Tuesday from 11:30 a.m.- 1 p.m.  Dickins Funeral Home has charge.
Mr. Tutor was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.  He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and reading his Bible.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Myrtice Brown Tutor and Willie Carl Tutor and four sisters.
Survivors include: his wife of 63 years, Margie White Tutor; three daughters, Marcia Cosby (Billy), Debi Jordan (Gerald), all of Courtland and Cissy Holland of Pope; one brother, Delma Tutor of Tunica; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
