Two police vehicles aging out of fleet

Batesville’s mayor and aldermen will assemble for their regularly scheduled Third Tuesday meeting today at 2 p.m.
Among items city officials will consider are a request from Shreveport Federal Credit Union for a non-binding memorandum of understanding that would be included in credit union’s application for a U. S. Treasury Community Development Financial Institution grant.
“A successful application will bring dollars to the community by protecting the credit union from loss, ensuring regulatory support for continued lending and providing loans supporting economic development,” credit union president/CEO Helen Godfrey Smith wrote in a letter to Mayor Jerry Autrey.
Aldermen are expected to approve a request from Police Chief Tony Jones to declare two police vehicles as surplus. One 2010 Ford Crown Victoria is slated for donation to the Town of Pope; a second police car of the same vintage will be sold to the City of Sardis for $2,500.
Other business to be considered Tuesday:
• Request from the First Baptist Church for approval to hold National Day of Prayer observance on the Public Square Thursday, May 5;
• Requests for five police officers to attend training seminars conducted by outside agencies.
