BJH Tigers run streak to 6 wins

By Brad Greer
Batesville Junior High ran their win streak to six as they swept a doubleheader from visiting Senatobia Thursday night.
Caleb White tossed a five inning shutout in the opening game as the Tigers eased past the Warriors 9-0 in five innings before taking the nightcap 9-4.
Batesville (10-4) led 2-0 after two innings in the first game before blowing the contest open with a seven-run third inning. White, Denver Brown and Gunner Ward led off the frame with three consecutive singles before Wes Morgan blooped single down the right field line to drive in two runs. Dre Moore and Gage Heath followed with RBI groundouts to widen the margin to 6-0.
Caleb Lantern kept the rally going with a single following by KeShaun Lantern getting hit by a pitch. Dawson Griffin and Bowen Williams reached on errors that produced three runs. That would be plenty enough offense for White who scattered three hits while walking two and striking out four.
Griffin got the Tigers on the board in the bottom of the first with a leadoff single then scored on White’s RBI double one batter later. Batesville added another run in the second as Morgan singled to open the inning and came home on Heath’s run scoring single. Moore also added a single in the victory.
Batesville registered eight hits in the second game as Griffin, Brown, Morgan, Caleb Lantern and Blaine Cosby all singled. Williams and Moore added doubles while John Culp tripled. White drove in two runs followed by Culp, Ward, Morgan and Cosby all with one RBI each.
Morgan picked up the pitching win with three strikeouts and three walks in three innings. Moore gave up two runs on two hits with three walks and one strikeout in one inning of work.
Batesville will visit Lafayette County Saturday at 5 and 7 p.m.
