Clifton Perry ‘Rooster’ Arnold

POPE––Clifton Perry “Rooster” Arnold, 79, formerly of Charleston, died Saturday, March 5, 2016, at his residence.
Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Charleston First Baptist Church. Military honors will be performed at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Pope. Rev. John Price and Rev. Joe Young will officiate. Officiating at the church cemetery is Rev. Derrick Simmons. Womble Funeral Home of Charleston has charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers include: Michael Doss, Steven Doss, Monty Gordon, Shane McCown, Michael Morris and William Morris Honorary pallbearers are the Charleston Fire Department.
Arnold, born Aug. 12, 1936, to the late William Melvin Arnold Sr. and Hazel Goforth Arnold worked for Tallahatchie General Hospital as a security guard, he was  city commissioner, and a Korean Air Force veteran.
Survivors include: his wife, Marilyn Morris Arnold; three daughters, Penny Arnold Goodwin (Ben) of Pope, Paula Arnold of Charleston and Pamela Arnold Cole (Tim) of Paynes; one sister, Sarah Doss Thomas of Hernando; one brother, William Melvin Arnold, Jr. of Sherwood, Ark.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren

Mildred Stubbs McCreary

Mrs. Mildred Stubbs McCreary, of Cleveland, Mississippi, passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at Bolivar Medical Center.  Visitation was held Monday, March 7, 2016 at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of Life services were held Monday, March 7, 2016 at Ray Funeral Home. Ike Raley  officiated. Interment followed at Beulah Cemetery.
Mrs. McCreary was born in Panola County on May 26, 1925 to Roy and Dora Stubbs.  She was the oldest of ten children.  She married Eugene M McCreary in Rosedale, MS.
 In the early years she was employed by Bell Telephone as an operator, before staying in the home to raise their children.  After her husband died she worked for Fur River Towing from which she retired after twenty five years of service with perfect attendance.  She would tell you that her greatest accomplishment in life was her children: that they grew up to be good & decent individuals.  She was selfless and put her family first and was a true friend to many.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rosedale.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene M McCreary; parents, Roy & Dora Stubbs; sisters, Melba Stubbs, Lois Jones; brother, Roy Stubbs Jr; son, Darryl Eugene McCreary.
Surviving are her sons, Myron Martin Jr. McCreary (Linda) of Vicksburg, Jeff McCreary (Jean) of Cleveland; daughters, Nan Gilbert (Howard) of Rosedale, Maria McCreary Wooten (Robby) of WestPoint, and Melody McCreary Stafford (Larry) of WestPoint; sisters, Mary Stubbs Burton of Denver, CO, Mattie Stubbs Few of Florida, Sherry Stubbs Russell of Mendehall, MS, and Camilla Stubbs Slack of Memphis, TN;  brothers, Fred Stubbs (Jen), of Maryland, James Erwin Stubbs (Bonnie) of Kosciusko, MS; grandchildren, Shane & Keith Martin, Ward & Jeff Gilbert, Bobbie Simpson & Darryl McCreary, Chris & Matt Wooten, Jeff & Blake McCreary, Memorie Finnie, Clay Stafford & Melissa Lott; twenty two great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.  
The family would also like to say a special thanks to Dr. Clarke & Dr. Walt, the staff of Extended Care at the Bolivar Medical Center, and Ruth, Barbara & Diane for their loving care.  
Pallbearers were: Ward Gilbert, Chris Wooten, Jeff McCreary, Clay Stafford, Matt Wooten, Darryl McCreary, Shane Martin, Keith Martin, Blake McCreary, and Jeff Gilbert.

MARKS––James R. Figgs, 72, died February 29, 2016, at Baptist Memorial Hospital.
Memorial services were held Friday at Silent Grove M.B. Church in Marks and Saturday at Quitman High School. Delta Burial Corporation had charge.

James Verlon Kennedy

BATESVILLE––James Verlon Kennedy, 89, died Thursday, March 3, 2016 at his residence.
He was born on February 13, 1927. He was a greeter at Walmart in Oxford. Services were held Monday at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel.Burial was held at Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Johnnie Liddell

DARLING––Johnnie Liddell, 84, died February 29, 2016, at Methodist Hospital in Memphis.
Memorial services were held Saturday at Mt. Zion M.B. Church. Burial was in New Bethel Cemetery in Darling. Delta Burial had charge.
