Those loud booms you heard Saturday night, didn’t originate in the City of Batesville according to Assistant Police Chief Jimmy McCloud, “But  it definitely lit up our 911 system,” he said.
Chief Deputy Chris Franklin said Monday afternoon a report of the loud noises had yet to reach his desk.
The booms were thought to have come from someone using Tannerite, a binary explosive marketed primarily for making exploding targets for firearms practice.
The explosions were thought to have come from the Pine Lodge Road area just east of Batesville’s city limits according to one source.
And those booms Sunday night, they came from exploding fireworks stored in the 6 &51 shopping center that was virtually destroyed by fire. Fire Chief Tim Taylor said those booms didn’t last long noting they did get firemen’s attention when they began exploding. Facebook video confirmed a short but colorful show.
Batesville Police Department weekend incident reports include two concerning James Ladd who was  arrested and charged for shoplifting at Walmart at 2:10 p.m. and at 2:55 of the same day for shoplifting in Kroger according to Patrolman Tommy Lindsey’s report.
Officer Scott Cagle’s report on the same day says during a traffic stop at 11:10 p.m. James Ladd II, (different address) was charged with possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle.
Tina Nola was arrested for shoplifting, third offense,  at Walmart according to Patrolman Steve McClarty’s report of Saturday, February 27.
During another traffic stop on Sunday, Corey Wright was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle.
Officer Michael Sergeant’s report of Sunday, Feb. 28 states that Zane Rawson and Collin Gossett were arrested and charged with public drunk at Huddle House.
