BJH basketball split in play with Grenada

In junior high action Thursday, Batesville Jr. High girls were victorious over Grenada while both boys teams lost.
BJH 7th girls 10, Grenada 3
The seventh grade girls emerged with a 10-3 victory. The Lady Tigers led 5-2 at halftime, having shut out Grenada in the second quarter.
Grenada scored on one free throw in the third quarter and was shut out in the fourth.
Chrystal Mayes led the Lady Tigers with six points, followed by Bailey Ware with two. Rounding out the scoring with one point each were Alexia Moore and Melissa Robinson.

BJH 15
The seventh grade Tigers battled all game long and were only down 4-3 at the end of the first quarter. Anterio Draper scored on a three-pointer to put the Tigers on the scoreboard.
In the second quarter, Grenada out scored Batesville 8-5 to take a 12-8 lead into halftime.
Raymond Harris scored two free throws before Dre Moore drained a three-pointer at the buzzer.
Grenada kept adding to the lead little-by-little out scoring Batesville 7-3 in the third quarter.
Marques Pryor and Cameron Wright each scored a field goal for Batesville in the fourth quarter, but the Tigers still fell short.
Pryor led the Tigers with four points. Following with three points each were Moore, Harris and Draper. Wright rounded out the scoring with two points.
BJH 8th girls 26,
Grenada 16
For Jr. High girls, the Lady Tigers did a good job of getting the ball in the basket. The defense was strong as Batesville led 16-4 at halftime.
Batesville only allowed Grenada one field goal in the first quarter and two free throws in the second quarter.
Grenada made a little more inroad in the third quarter, outscoring Batesville 6-4.
Takyra Webster led the Lady Tigers with 11 points, followed by KeAmber Jackson with six.
Other scorers include Janarria Sanford, five points; and with two points each are Aziyah McGhee and Taddera Patton.
Grenada 8th boys 19, BJH 8th boy 5,
The BJH eighth grade boys struggled as they were shutout the first half, 8-0. The Tigers were also shut out the fourth quarter.
Scoring in the third quarter for Batesville were Wes Morgan, three points and Jaquelin Gillespie, two points.
The BJH Tigers hosted Senatobia last night in the final games before the Christmas holidays. BJH returns to action Thursday, January 7 to host North Panola in inner-county action beginning at 5 p.m.
