NP sweeps Lewisburg in non-district

Monday the Cougars faced an unfamiliar team in Lewisburg where North Panola swept the Patriots.

NP var. Ladies 46, Lewisburg 37
The Lady Cougars were not as dominant as the junior varsity teams but they did enough to win 46-37.
In the first quarter, Lewisburg outscored the Lady Cougars 10-7.

In the second quarter, the game went back and fourth as LaErica Spann scored five points with a steal to bring North Panola within one at halftime, 17-16.

In the third the Lady Cougars got hot as they scored 13 points and ShaQuanta Pettis had three big steals that led to six points. The Lady Cougars went into fourth with a 31-24 lead.

In the fourth the Lady Cougars took the game away as they pulled away from Lewisburg. The Lady Cougars got a victory with a 46-37 win that was led by Pettis, Spann and Kianna Willingham.

Leading the Cougars was Willingham with 10 points. Other scorers were Spann with nine points, four rebounds and a steal. Pettis had seven points, eight rebounds and three steals. ShaQuirah Wilbourn had five points while Shanqiue Burnette had four points. KiTyra Webb had two points, seven rebounds and a steal. Denisha Montgomery had two points and a rebound. Leah Shorty had two points and two rebounds. Kenya Edwards had a point and one steal.

NP varsity boys 60, Lewisburg 40
For the Cougars they had a similar problem that the junior varsity boys had and that was to figure out how to shoot around the big defenders from Lewisburg. Demetrick Porter was determined to be the answer with an eight point quarter. Scoring inside was hard for the Cougars so they scored, taking the ball outside.

In the first half the Cougars hit six three pointers and looked like the Cougars of old. In the second Porter continued his onslaught with eight more points.

In the third quarter the Cougars wore the Lewisburg defense down as they went to the inside to shoot and were able to score eight inside. They went into the final quarter with a 45-31 lead.

In the fourth the Cougars spent most of their time at the free throw line. The Cougars went 8-for-15 from the line and put the game away. They Cougars got a win by a final of 60-40.

Leading the Cougars was Porter with 21 points, three rebounds and two assists. Other scorers were Jordan Dandridge with 11 points, two rebounds and two assists. Jamarcus Jones had eight points. Vennis Mills had seven points, two rebounds and an assist. Jarvis Renix had four points, three assists and a rebound. Tremayne Madlock had three points and two rebounds. Mario Fenner Jr. Had two points, four rebounds and three assists. Darrell Young and Sylvonta Oliver had one point each.

NPJV girls 26, Lewisburg 18
The first victory came at the hands of the junior varsity girls as they won 26-18. The game was a struggle in the first half for both teams as at the end on the first the score was 6-2. All North Panola points were scored by ShaQuirah Wilbourn.

In the second the Lady Cougars got things together as they scored 13 points and it was their biggest point total for any quarter. Shanique Burnette and Shandaruins Clark helped the effort both causing five combined turnovers.

In the third the Lady Cougars only scored four points but gave up eight points.
In the fourth the Lady Cougars put the game away after scoring eight of their own points and getting four steals. The Lady Cougars won by the score of 26-18. Leading the Lady Cougars was Burnette with 10 points. Other scorers were Clark with seven points, Shakevia Loveberry with six and Wilbourn with two points.

NPJV boys 33, Lewisburg 15
In the junior varsity boys game, they faced a big interior from Lewisburg. The Cougars had to find a way to shoot around the bigger defenders and did as they won 33-15. Jay’Sean Smith would lead the way with six early points And Jarvis Echols with a big three-pointer.

At the end of the first the Cougars had an 11-0 lead. In the second the Cougars offense slowed down but their defense held up. As they only scored four points but held Lewisburg to two points.

In they’ve third had another low point total only scoring seven. Smith had a big three pointer late in the third to spark the offense going into the fourth.

In the fourth Lewisburg went on a run ending the game with a ten point boost but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit as they scored their final 10 points of the game. The game was not close as they won 32-14.
 
Leading the Cougars was Smith with nine points. Other scorers were Mario Fenner, Clarence Taylor and Deshawn Smith with four points each. Jarvis Echols had three points. Tyler Shorter, Sylvonta Oliver, Roydarius Jackson and Kenneth Jefferson had two points each.
