NP whips Coldwater

North Panola had a big rivalry game on their hands Friday night in the form of the Coldwater Cougars and North Panola Cougarstook three of the four games on the night.
Coldwater V. Girls 66, NP 58 (OT)
The Lady Cougars fell short in overtime 66-58. The first quarter ended with the score tied at eight.. ShaQuanta Pettis led the way for North Panola with a three-pointer.
In the second quarter, the teams matched evenly as the score was tied at 18 going into halftime.
The Lady Cougars were 8-of-10 at the free throw line.
In the third quarter, the teams were able to find the basket but was again tied at 38-38 going into the fourth.
Kianna Willingham led the Lady Cougars in the fourth quarter as her field goal tied the game at 52 at the buzzer to send it into overtime.
In overtime the Lady Cougars fell short 66-58.
Leading scorer for North Panola was Willingham with 14 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Other scorers include Pettis and Jasmine Mays, 11 points each. Pettis had six rebounds, four assists and a steal. Mays had five rebounds and three assists.
Shandarius Clark had 10 points, six rebounds and two assists. Kenya Edwards had six points, three rebounds and two assists. Denisha Montgomery had four points, five rebounds and an assist. LaErica Spann had two points and two assists.
NP varsity boys 59, Coldwater 39
For the North Panola boys, they jumped on Coldwater early. In the first quarter, North Panola’s Jamarcus Jones was a force to be reckoned with as he was all over the court grabbing rebounds and had big dunks.
After the half Demetrick Porter had 11 points including three three-pointers.
Leading the way for the Cougars was Porter with 21 points, five rebounds and two assists. Jamarcus Jones had his first double-double of the season with 16 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and one steal.
Other scorers include Jarvis Renix, four points, three ass
ists, two steals and one rebound; Jordan Dandridge and Vennis Mills, four points each.
Dandridge had seven rebounds and four assists. Mills had two rebounds and four assists.
Tremayne Madlock, Sylvonta Oliver, Demetrick Moore and Ankeyvias Harris had two points each. Madlock had two steals and one assist. Oliver had five rebounds. Moore had four rebounds and an assist and Harris had a rebound and an assist. Davonte Cathey had one point, nine rebounds and three assists.
NPJV girls 19, Coldwater 16
Setting the tempo for the night were the junior varsity girls who had a tough, physical game. North Panola scraped its way to a 19-16 win.
In the first quarter, Coldwater led at the end 6-4 in which there were a lot of turnovers between the teams.
Shanique Burnette did the only scoring for North Panola in the second quarter with four points. At the half, Coldwater led 10-8.
In the third quarter, fortune changed for the Lady Cougars as they gained the lead and overcame the deficit as Shandarius Clark hit a three-pointer for the 13-10 lead going into the fourth quarter.
In the final quarter the Lady Cougars kept the lead as Clark and Shakevia Loveberry led the way.
Leading the way for Lady Cougars was Shandarius Clark with nine points. Other scorers were Loveberry and Shanique Burnette with four points each and Jasmine Mays with two.
NPJV boys 51, Coldwater 15
The North Panola junior varsity boys game was quite a blowout win of 51-15.
In the first quarter, the Cougars held Coldwater scoreless as they scored 23 points. Jarvis Echols had a big quarter scoring 10 points with two three-pointers.
In the second quarter, North Panola continued the blowout with 38-6 lead at the half. The team was led by Mario Fenner Jr. with six points.
After the half the Cougars slowed down a bit only scoring five points in the third quarter.
Leading the way for Cougars was Echols with 10 points.
Other scorers were Deshaun Smith, eight points; Fenner, six; Tyler Shorter and Phillip Mangrum, four points each; Davonte Cathey and Clarence Taylor, three points each; Roydarius Jackson, Mardarkkious Walls and Jamarcis Echols, two points each; and Kenneth Jefferson one point.
The Cougar teams will be home this week. Tonight they will host Lewisburg beginning at 4 p.m. with the junior varsity girls’ game. Saturday, North Panola will host the I-55 Shootout Challenge.
North Panola will be honoring faith night. Each fan is asked to wear a t-shirt from their church.
