Ethel Faye Bass
BATESVILLE––Ethel Faye Bass, 77, died Sunday, November 15, 2015, at Golden Living Nursing Home.
Services were held Wednesday at Dickins Funeral Home. Burial was in Batesville Magnolia Cemetery. Rev. Wade Wilkes and Rev. Sam Burton officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
Bass, born June 29, 1938, in Marks, to the late Eugene Jones and Lillian Coggins Jones, was a member of Southaven First United Methodist Church where she was in the choir.
Survivors include: her husband, Edward Bass of Southaven; three daughters, Sheila Faye Darby of Southaven, Tammy Bass Wallis of Batesville and Beverly Bass Clark of Pope; four sisters, Ellen VanHoozer of Tennessee, Margie E. Pearson, Pat Mettetal and Ruby Dale Bolen, all of Batesville; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to Southaven First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 723 Star Landing Rd., Southaven, Miss. 38671.
Catherine Hubbard Mixon
SOUTHAVEN––Catherine Hubbard Mixon, 86, died Tuesday, November 17, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto.
Services were held Thursday at Dickins Funeral Home. Burial was in Chapel Hill Cemetery. Hal Johnson officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
Mixon, born Dec. 17, 1928, in Pope, to the late Pete Hubbard and Carrie Beard Hubbard, was a member of Colonial Hill Baptist Church in Southaven.
Survivors include: her son, Ben H. Germany of Pope; one brother, Tony Hubbard of Pope; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
William Davis “Bill” Newton Jr.
ENID––William Davis “Bill” Newton Jr., 74, died Monday, November 16, 2015, at Region One Medical Center in Memphis.
Memorial services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from noon until service time. Rev. Chris Cookesey and Rev. Laurie Jones will officiate.
Newton, born Nov. 6, 1941, in Tallahatchie County, to the late William Davis Newton and Ida Pauline Cox Newton, was a farmer and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. He graduated from Mississippi State University in 1963.
Survivors include: his wife, Lillie Simmerman Newton of Batesville; two children, Connie Newton Kirk of Grenada and Bill Newton III (Ellen) of Enid; two step-sons, Barry Simmerman and Jessie Simmerman; one sister, Pat Little of Teasdale; two brothers, Roger Newton of Metairie, La. and Jim Newton of Charleston and four grandchildren, Tyler and Morgan Kirk and Braden and Ben Newton.
